But why 1999?
Because the 1999 Christmas ident had a fairy in it. The 2 is seen booting it off the top of the tree.

No regional ident for BBC London either. In the days before UK Today, when network BBC1 carried BBC South East, we used to get a network Christmas ident before regional news, ie without the regional branding.

Yes I looked out for a regional London Christmas ident today before LDN but it was just the Canry Wharf balloon I think!

BBC ONE Yorkshire & Lincolnshire kind of used a regional christmas ident this afternoon.

Kind of, as it was actually the sting (Used at start of National Weather forecast and at start of Xmas Preview)

With it being a sting, it quickly became a static ident, The usual announcement:
'Across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, this is BBC ONE With Look North presented by Peter Levy' was used.
I expect it will be used at 'tea-time' as well

Anyone catch that Pages from Ceefax made an appearance this morning at 5.30am? Just realised before I was going to bed so I thought I'd bung a tape in. After a trailer, we had a nice 20-sec ident with the anno saying 'BBC One opens Christmas Eve with a journey through the mist for our young dinosaur friends. Animated fantasy in 20 minutes which is just enough time, while the others are asleep, to have a sneaky feel of those presents under the tree.' We then go to Ceefax with nice Christmassy music! They're doing it again tomorrow as well.

Anyone know why they're bothering?

Cheers, Asa

Does seem rather bizarre - especially when they could have just continued the News 24 simulcast... Perhaps they're trying to remind digital viewers that if they switch back to analog they get a complete textual information service? http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I wounder if by 2010 we'll have 'Pages from BBCi Text'?

I think I know why they went to pages of Ceefax at 5.30am. Regular programming began at 5.50, i.e. 10mins before The World Today/World Business Report finishes on News 24. Therefore they might have opted out to Ceefax at 5.30am at a suitable stage, before WBR started and just after TWT ended, as it would have looked strange just opting out mid-programme at 5.50am.

This years efforts,

BBC 1: Excellent my favourite one was where the Trotters van backfired

BBC 2: Great smooth animation shame it wasn't blue

Carlton: good,Same as last year but then 1 seems to have changed colour, one has two diffrent animations & one seems to have dissapeared

LWT: Christmas has not visited here but hopefully the LWT name will be kept

Channel 4: last years again (more detail on new idents please will the 4 in a bow dissapear)

Channel 5: Brilliant but don't like music

I liked BBC1 this year. BBC2 was fantastic, really well animated and a lovely concept, and I love the camera angle.

But it's ruined by the fact that I know every single BBC2 ident from now until the forseeable future will be yellow. Nothing else, no lovely turquoise, or luminous green, or any nice surprising colours. Just YELLOW. Sad

Last time I checked BBC 1 & 2 were still using Xmas idents, well done I'm glad as it seems a waste of time to do them for just 3 days
