Despite the fact they're all diferent in a way, all the BBC1 idents are sort of the same. they all have the dog, dinosaur and Del & Rodneys van attached to baloons, then at the end they all zoom into the window where the BBC 1 baloon (where the backgound looks suspiciously like last years) is outside. The only differences are what the characters/ the van are actually doing. However, they are much better than the New BBC TWO 2s, especially the christmas one which is absolutly terrible.

I think its great that BBC One has made the effort to make more than one Christmas ident this year, even if they are just small differences, each one is fun and quirky in its own way. I also really like the BBC Two christmas ident - even if it is yellow (I was expecting the 2's yellow enviroment to be covered in snow... oh well) the 'bright sparks' certainly do inject a lot of life into it, and I like the idea of the fairy too - something we've never seen before in BBC Two's idents because its introducing another character other than the familiar 2 .

1999?

And just to answer a previous question, I'm sure there's only three variations - one for each of the idents to focus on one particular item.

I doubt that many people would actually notice the differences between the three BBC ONE idents, except observant people, and of course, us avid 'identeers' (spot the made-up word!). My family never notice idents and wouldn't know the difference between the Generic ITV1 Hearts and the BBC ONE 1980s COW!

The differences should be more noticable - ie they should start only in focus on the particular character, then zoom out to reveal everyone else plus the tree and the balloon outside, then zoom slowly back in to the balloon.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know how long this ident lasts? Is it a traditional 34 seconds, or is it a Walking With Beasts/Blue Planet/Bungee/Millennium Dome/Blackpool... jobbee where they flick back to the start after 15 seconds?

Here's my thoughts on the Christmas Idents this year!

BBC ONE- Quite good I think, the idents link properly to the toy kind of theme for Christmas this year on BBC ONE, and like the way the Only Fools & Horses car is included. Made it better when I saw the idents and saw the Balloon included so it still links to the other idents, better than last year's!

BBC TWO- Compared to the other new 2s, this one is better and I like the way the music has been changed slightly. Not a big effort though as the yellow colour is still used. The purple box should have changed colour for christmas, either red or green would have done and maybe a bit of snow lying on the box!

ITV- Nothing special, I like a bit more colour in an ident but at least it's a new idea.

Channel 4- Really bad compared to some previopus years, looks like a 5 minute effort there, maybe not even that, pretty pathetic!

Channel 5- The idents are good, I just don't like the music cos it's not my thing but they are good idents and the 5 is kept in the circle like it should be and a good thew versions too!

SKY ONE- Absolutely awful!

I quite like the Channel 4 idents - it seems a very simple and effective way to incorporate the '4' with a Christmas theme.  Very nice!

Incidentally, BBC912, why have you capitalised Asa's name? It's not an acronym for anything!!

Have any regions got the Christmas BBC ONE idents in use?

We in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire got the one we see every Sunday, Norfolk and the 'presented by Peter LeeVeeee' announcement
