Somehow I think the characters (toy dog & dinosaur) have something to do with the premier of Toy Story (Christmas TV must be going downhill if thats the top movie on Christmas day).
Well it's lucky they didn't try this sort of thing last Xmas - the top films being 'Titanic' and 'Independence Day' - I can picture it now - the balloon being shot down by aliens in ID or by one of the distress beacons in Titanic!!
Weren't 1997 and 1998 the last times BBC ONE had more than one xmas ident - I don't think there was more than one before then either! I like it - adds a bit of variety!!
I like the BBC One one actually as it shows BBC One's basic lineup in the ident, with light comedy and the've found a clever way to fit the balloon in too.
BBC Two really does look better than static 2s 'appearing' in a interesting way, like we've done on and off for the past 10 years!
Carlton delight me with the old idents 'tweaked' to include the fabulous star effect at the end,as the idents used for the past 2 years really are effective.
LWT don't care.
Channel 4 are leaving it a little late compared with everyone else.
Channel 5 seem to have increased the budget,as is normal for new channels after about 3 or 4 years after they start. The idents look pretty good and are very Christmassy.
Sky One rushed a bit.
BBC One London I am hoping will bother doing a special ident on Saturday or Sunday, and BBC One South West did last year,so I can't wait to see there's.

I agree with Blake Connolly. I will be sad to see the balloons go next year. Its only recently that ive come to like them. (its only took 4 years). But anyway I think the BBC 1 christmas ident is fantastic! Its original, imaginative, not tacky or too over the top and its funny, (especially the one where Del Boy's car is floating across the room being powered by the car backfireing). And its good the way the real BBC balloon has been cleverly included into the ident, I didn't think it was going to be used this year but im glad it has been, and unlike last year it looks pretty christmassy because the way the light is outside the balloon looks a really festive red colour. WELL DONE BBC!!!
Yeah I agree I think the BBC 1 xmas idents are great, they are fun and imaginative. How can you call them dull and drab, thats what last years were this years are fun and colourful. BBC 2 well its one of the new twos, I don't like it, it seams just so easy to make their idents do anything now (ie pull out their hands and anything can appear!) very little imagination. Carltons are fantasic as always. Nothing from C4 yet but a re-use of last years would be a great. C5 not really my cup of tea, but very well done and traditionally xmasy.

Really unimpressed with the BBC TWO ident. Quite nice I guess but the 2 is still as exciting as a block of cheese.
The BBC ONE ident is quite nice as well. It was nice to see the balloon through the window.
Well the longest one I've managed to capture so far has been 15 seconds during last night's N24 junction!
If you've got longer than that, Max, give me a buzz .. email!!

On the equivalent Saturday last year, there was a Xmas ident before Look North, today there wasn't!

Seems like the beeb has done many different variations of this years Christmas ident - I just saw another new one - where the dinosaur is sort of... well... spitting! (You have to see it to know what I mean!)
