Well, if BBC Network Control slip up like Channel 4 did, we might get to see the 'shelf-life' marked on the VT clock!!

(No, I don't really think it'll be on there. I think C4's VT pre-roll is unusual in this respect.)

Well if I can't get it out of you, Geraint, I can always ask my friend @ BBC Wales... Steve Powell (know him?)

Nope never heard of him, and if he ain't in our dept, then he won't be privy to it Wink

I personally think the BBC will rebrand shortly after BBC3 is given the go-ahead - I'm not sure when an announcment is due, but when the go-ahead is given then I think the change will take place on ONE, Choice (to THREE) and Knowledge (to FOUR) at the same time, about two months later... I guess that might be around May, then?
BBC FOUR starts in March; if BBC THREE gets the go-ahead then it's expected it'll launch around May/June.

(Incidentally, drifting off-topic slightly, the first of the BBC's new digital radio stations, BBC 6 Music, is reportedly starting on 11th March).

By the way, the new children's channels that will be on BBC three and four are pencilled in to start before Knowledge and Choice are re-branded (maybe the febuary half-term). I'll try to get my Dad to ask Martin Lambie-Nairn when the new BBC One idents will appear (he knows him from seeing him on the train up to London) but I doubt he'll say... Sad

Well someone managed to let the cat out of the bag over the BBC TWO rebranding last November, we all knew 2 dates 2 or 3 weeks before the relaunch, and then are fears were rightened when the BBC announced to the The Times about the relaunch!
I have no idea when the balloons will pop but I think it will be later this year, I've had a feeling we're gonna see a numeric 1 again!

Well given how far in advance these things seem to be planned - not very - if Geraint already knows a date then I would imagine it can't be too far off - I'd hazard a guess at about february - if that's when the CBBC channels launch - then they can rebrand all the childrens content at the same time as BBC1.

Yeah, that's my reconning. I doubt this news would be made available too early, even internally. It's not in this week's Arial is it? http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/biggrin.gif

My guess is early March when BBC Four pops up (according to Broadcast but I think it's mentioned on the BBC site somewhere...)

Cheers, Asa

I have just been speaking to Steve Powell (a reliable source @ BBC Wales) and it looks as though the secret may be out...

According to him the change should have happened in Autumn but now looks like being in Spring so any time from March onwards...

Oh and by the way, Geraint, if you know Steve Dutfield or Paul Woodham, then ask them who Steve Powell is, and they should be able to tell you!

Or tune in to BBC Radio Wales on Saturday mornings and listen out for him on the travel bulletins!

There are plans being mooted all the time, so Autumn last year, was preceded by a rumour of summer last year....... etc etc

As for march onwards, well effectively, you've covered most of 2002 Smile As for when it happens, well if your mate Steve Powell had an ounce of sense, which I do wonder about, he'd mention nothing to you. Playing one upmanship may seem fun on the net, but as I've said before, commercially it's not wise. Let's hope the London big knobs don't spot you boasting his name as your source on here......

I agree with Geraint, if anyone knows someone who works within the industry and you have inside information then you are jeopardising that person if you name them. If you're given information and you disclose it on this forum then use your head and don't name names. Powers to be monitor this site!!!
