I've only once seen this one played long enough to see it happen.

This one was played when BBC1 broken into CBBC to cross over to News 24 when Princess Margaret died, and the whole thing was played out before cutting to the standard still when the balloon playout fails. Is this the one you mean? Why they didn't use the news report caption I don't know...

I don't think anythink special will be done, I wanted a 2 tribute in November and I didn't get one just a long Paint ident with a little announcement. I think we will get a long version of one of the balloons with a little mention of a new look in the morning and then straight into NEWS 24. I would like them to use the national anthem special that they used before NEWS 24 went overnight on BBC ONE.

If the balloon is going to be sent off in style, then this is how it should be done:

The BBC waste some of their precious ( Sad ) time by spending something like half an hour broadcasting all idents ever used; Christmases, Olympics, past and present idents that are no longer used etc etc etc!! A sort of re-union. Then it could all end for the last time ever with the following ident:

It might be the most boring ident ever used on BBC One, but this would be it's perfect departure after showing all the other idents. Unaware that it's no longer gonna fly on our screen, the BBC One Balloon sets off on it's last ever journey into the sunset...

Isn't that the same balloon shot as Look North use for their 'balloon over the Humber Estuary/North Sea' shot?

Well all I know about that ident is that it was shot in Ireland! Dunno if that helps! Very Happy

What (out of interest) was the first balloon ident they used?? I always wanted a ride in it - do you think they'd sell it to us if we all put in some cash???!!

but I doubt they'll let us lot buy it.

Maybe they could use it in future corporate events/exhibitions, take paying guests up in it for something like £25 per head, and all proceeds could be ploughed back into the BBC's programming budget / upkeep of balloon......

Or maybe the BBC could enter it in ballooning competitions!

I hope that they show a couple of full versions Razz: , that would be very nice.

If the BBC want to end the Balloon era with a special ident, they could do this Wink :

It's based on a Ben Elton Ident (BBC One Ben Elton 1).

First balloon ident was English 9.

I think they should close with full versions of all normal idents to fill the time between close and the top of the hour/half hour on news 24 and possibly close after this with the national anthem ident and a long countdown? and if there is time include the special idents (xmas etc.)

PS I wouldn't even mind if there was a DOG on them (if the announcer didn't speak!)

There's a perfectly good DOG on them! It says BBC ONE at the bottom Smile

As to the final one. Hmmm... Could end as it started I guess but that's a little boring (BBC Two Paint was a different idea as seen as that survived 11 years). Montage would be nice even if it was a hashed version of the National Anthem one. Something would be nice at least...

As to the final anno, how about (longer intro that usual +) 'This is BBC One joining BBC News 24 shortly. First, a brand new look comes to the channel at <time> so it means saying farewell to the balloon. After five years of successful flights around the UK join us for an exciting new look (ahem!) in the morning. From myself <> and the late team it's goodnight and goodbye.'

It'll either be 1.50am early Friday, 3.20am Saturday or 3.05am Sunday.

Cheers, Asa
