I'm not going to start a poll becuase I really hate the things, i've hated them ever since they were introduced into the forum and I whinged on that dat.
Anyway, how should the balloon go? Here are some suggestions, go bang, full idents, a long closedown sequence.
My personal preference. A long medely of balloons starting at **:45 which runs for several minutes, then a CA saying bye and mentioning the relaunch, then the balloon national anthem sequence, fading slowly to black before a news 24 90 seconds countdown fades in silenty before starting the crossover sequence.

a good idea would be for the balloon to land somewhere nice, perhaps on a tropical island, and slowly deflate as the announcer says goodnight.
either that or....
someone shoots balloon, announcer says 'night night. no balloons anymore, something new tomorrow.' :

The balloon should blend in with the first 'new ident' with it flying ito Lorraine Hedgehog's garden whilst she is having a barbeque and ending up in her gob!
It's the end of the balloon - and the start of the lifestyle idents!
Trouble with that is that ident already got special treatment by being the first normal BBC ONE ident played in the new millenium, and it was without any voiceover too! Also, it's not one of the best ones.
Perhaps, like BBC TWO finished off with Paint, they could finish with one of the really popular ones, like Scottish 9:
It'd be really really nice to see a proper send off like a montage of lots of the idents, but I'd expect probably there'd just be a bit of thought into the choice of ident, a bit more of the music, and a special mention in the announcement. After all, nothing too special was done for the end of some of the best presentation of all time over on BBC TWO.

Has anyone ever seen Welsh 2 played for long enough so that you can see someone in the basket? On numerous occasions ive seen it till just before the basket comes into view, and would love to see the basket.
I think for the final one the BBC Balloon should land on the roof of Television Centre. Or in the grounds somewhere and slowly start deflating as the anouncer says good bye. Then play an n24 90seconds countdown over the top til it's deflated then about 10seconds fade out to countdown to news.
I think that BBC2 should commission a set of 5/10-minute 'shorts' entitled Goodbye to the Ballooney (wordplay on Baloney!). Celebrities/members of the public could say a short piece on how the balloon has bought a little happiness to their lives.....
I hope that they show a couple of full versions : , that would be very nice.

If the BBC want to end the Balloon era with a special ident, they could do this :

It's based on a Ben Elton Ident (BBC One Ben Elton 1).

You don't - if you see this ident go on long enough, well before the basket comes into view, it switches into Welsh 3 (this one):
I think they will show English 9, with an announcment like 'Well, BBC One is joining BBC News 24 now, but before we do it's goodbye to this particular logo. Look out for a new look tomorrow, but in the meantime, BBC News 24'.
