Fairly sure Delivering Quality First - rather than quantity - doesn't apply to BBC 1 idents, then?
Not to sound like an agency type or anything, but airing sub-standard idents like that does cheapen and undermine the whole identity. If this is what we can expect for the rest of 2013, it's not looking great...
Only having 'a circle' as the sole signature is already lacking in specificity as the one constant across the idents as it is. But, it's the only common link the current set has. Lose that, and it has no identity. I'm kind of wondering why anyone thought this was worth airing; it really doesn't work.
Aside from a bit of footage like that, not as if they could have found anything Africa-related that better fitted the circle theme or BBC 1 of course... *cough* except maybe - and this is a radical one - the continent of Africa highlighted on a shot of the globe ? Evidently, that's not obvious / appropriately enough themed, nor strongly associated with BBC 1 idents at all, hmm? *cough*

The Christmas BBC Two idents still had a '2' in them though. The circle is BBC One's current equivalent, these days.
I kinda miss the old '1', in a way. Although the virtual globe was boring, it looked nice and the '1' worked well, complimented its sister '2' and never really had the chance of life being restricted by the globe. A shame as the globe went anyway only a few years later, though I like the baloon idents.

Ooh i like these magic-eye things... er... the only thing I can see is a bunch of BBC bosses laughing histerically at a bunch of angry TV anoraks who fell for their massive pink troll.
