Whatever they use it'll include a globe. So no, BBC America/Canada's idents will
not
be used here. At least not on BBC1. BBC4 maybe?
I've said it before, the BBC should dump that stupid, old-fashioned world theme from its BBC ONE idents. It has no relavance to the channel whatsoever. If the balloons are replaced by a completly new set of designed idents, and the world theme is still kept for the channel, then computer originated ****
will be almost certainly be used to create some sort of virtual globe.
Perhaps we could see a narrowed down globe theme with a British feel to it. The America and Canada idents are fantastic - mainly because they are real, and not made on some computer, like the BBC Prime, Choice and Knowledge idents.

I wouldn't have thought anything like that would be appropriate for BBC4, which should be a classy, upmarket channel - which those idents aren't.
The thing with BBC1 is that because it has such a wide variety of programming which has to appeal to the widest audience and the widest age range. It needs idents that are appropriate to introduce everything from Top of the Pops to Panorama. A universal symbol of a globe is the perfect way of encompassing this.
The BBC America/Canada idents would work for a channel with a more youthful slant - but for BBC1; you certainly could not introduce news or serious documentaries with them.

The current music on BBC1 is rather old fashioned and fuddy-duddy. Just listen below to a sample!
I think the music's OK, not dated at all. What does it have to sound like to be dated anyway? Why change for the sake of it?

I think the music's really pleasant and soothing, particularly the one used on Irish 6 (amongst others); and the music on English 2 (South Downs) and English 18 (St Michaels Mount) I think has a rather haunting quality about it!

will they ever put a dog on bbc one?
i think DOGS are quite cool.
and a countdown to the program like BBC News 24 uses would be better then the idents currently, and they should do the news headlines betwen the programs like BBc World...
See, TWO ident, told you so! How about some mocks guys?
My apologies This is the first I've heard these rumours, though. I hope they are true because I'm getting bored of the BBC 1 balloons.
But I hope they won't bring in some 'fresh', 'modern' idents, BBC1 are hopeless at this (e.g. market and skate park BBC balloons), and they always give the impression that the entire BBC1-viewing population must be aged 16-30.
Besides, BBC2, 3, and 4 are for fresh and modern, BBC1 should be a bit more traditional.
I hope not! DOGS are annoying and pathetic and we know what happened last time BBC1 and 2 (and channel 4) added DOGS!

They tried DOGs on BBC1 & 2 when they launched on digital in October 1998, but removed them within two months because of the complaints!

Not if you want a *clean copy* of EastEnders they're not! On BBC CHOICE repeats they don't show that rubbish 'Next' panel on the EE closing-credits, but oh no, that DOG has to go and ruin everything. (BTW, I've just started an EastEnders library. As soon as I get TV-cap I'll launch TV GOLD (or GOLD TV) full of idents and EastEnders clips from yesteryear... no Asa, won't be as good as yours though!)
