question time on bbc 1 had a brief break, a bbc news background with a number '5' on it. did the ob go down or was this caption a crude way to censor a rant?

Considering it's not live, but is played out from location, the former is more likely.

The suggestion from a Question Time bod on twitter is it was just a transmission cockup as they'd edit dodgy stuff out beforehand. IIRC didn't QT used to be routed though Millbank or has that stopped since Mentorn took over?

Not a clue, though it was a fault. Anything legally dubious (generally the only reason #bbcqt's edited) would be done pre-tx

It was a problem with the line between Millbank and playout being derouted to a different source.

"together with Vernon Kay..."

IIRC Vernon had nothing to do with the Longest Show Ever, did he? Except for that link, I don't think he was even mentioned, let alone featured. Confused

Not sure when Mentorn took over, but QT has been an independent production for a pretty long time now, and has certainly been recorded and played out by facilities in Millbank at some point during that time.

For a long time the connectivity between TVC and Millbank was using PAL Composite digital circuits, not component, so the picture quality took a massive hit. It seems to be component now - but I suspect this is a result of some circuit changes.

I'd have thought the most common reason for a break in transmission of the replay would be a routing issue between the playout machine and Red Bee.

Yeah he turned up shortly after that link for the 9-10 hour, they said something about him being late so I guess he was meant to be in that promo with Jimmy Carr.

If there is a problem with QT that prevents transmission, what would happen?

Is there a 'Best Of QT' ready to play? (25 / 30 Years Special from a few years back!)

Brillo starts early, maybe extended to fill the gap?

News Channel for an hour, then Brillo?

A N Other programme?

I think it's still the case that almost all live (or live play-in) programmes have a standby programme of a similar duration just in case they can't make their slot, or the line fails irrepairably, I imagine there's something placed against QT - there certainly used to be a standby against Newsnight, an old Correspondent programme about the Vietnam War ISTR...

So can anybody in the know confirm that we might be seeing a trailer for Doctor Who tonight?

If my calculations are correct, today is the day that the current BBC1 circle idents overtake the dancers (1653 days), having already outlasted the balloon idents on 1st April (1637 days).

I think the circle idents have fared a lot better than their immediate predecessors, and still seem pretty fresh to me, particularly after the 2009 refresh (which I liked even though seemingly no one else did!) I hope they stick around for the foreseeable future, which seems likely since I don't think a costly new presentation package would go down very well at this time of severe cutbacks at the BBC!

The circles do still seem fresh when the Dancers seemed dated after their run. I think it's because we've had a number of special idents added to the Circles package. It might be nice to see a couple more regular idents added though.
