Never mind BBC One, they've butchered one of the most moving idents in the history of British television. They used to cut down 'Helicopter' on most occasions, but it was still quite powerful - it's the music that's done the worst of the damage. At least we still get to hear the old 'Mirror' music on BBC Two from time to time - while the new 'Helicopter' cut makes for a good ident, it doesn't have the same impact as before.

The same can be said for most of the new edits, I think - they're decent enough, and *some* of the music's actually quite good, but they're not really satisfying from the pres fans' point of view.

Agreed - but what makes 'Hippos' (of all idents Rolling Eyes ) special enough to retain its old music?

The thing is, there'll be a few people who will definitely love/hate them, but a lot will like certain ones more than others or see general advantages/disadvantages of the set that we have seen. We're probably better just discussing it in the thread IMO.

Surely they're still better than the dancers?

Time for a pun...

A good identity, cut short...

It might be somewhat premature yet, considering the idents have only been on one day, but I've put a poll up. I'd be very interested to see everyone's overall opinion.

Well, at least the dancers had some kind of build up to them! Skateboarders for example, and Festival - the camera would zoom out to reveal what was happening. The soundtrack for eaxh one was also memorable.

Today, BBC1 has seriously gone off the rails. Extremely poor. Therefore:-

BRING BACK THE DANCERS!!!!!! Very Happy

Peter Fincham Controller of BBC1 once said back in 2006:-

Quote:
"In an increasingly competitive marketplace a channel needs to stand out from the crowd and I believe our new identity is just what's needed for BBC One.

"It's set in the everyday but shows people doing extraordinary things. It's got variety and range - everything from daredevil motorbikes to synchronised hippos. It's warm and it's dynamic.

"The circle, which is at the heart of this campaign, has been familiar to BBC One viewers over the years, but what we've got here is modern, forward looking and surprising."

Well, you can certainly say that:-
-todays new shortened idents is just what is NOT needed for BBC1
-No more variety or range - it only lasts for a few seconds now.
-Dynamic? The lack of moving motorbikes/hippos etc for more than 2 seconds does not show much dynamism to me
-Suprising? The acrobatic dogs might as well pack their bags and go back and live in their kennels now their suprising routine has been massacred.

Also - there won't be much point in getting excited for this years BBC1 Christmas Ident will there now? Today has put an end to all that! No point starting a thread in a few months time anticipating what they will do this year as there will no point in having a Christmas ident anymore...

Unbelievable! Rolling Eyes
