The junction into 1v100 seemed very rushed. I think the new bike ident is aweful a real shame as this was one of the strongest imo. So much of the character of this ident was in the music. The new is not a patch on the old.
It's definitely one of the idents for which the new cut doesn't quite cut it...
I'm wondering how Lawn Mowers is going to work. I can't see it making much sense.
The thing I don't understand is the BBC wanted the shorter idents so the announcer could talk over them quicker and not wait for the line up. On this video I found on YouTube though the announcer waits 20 seconds in to the ident before speaking ? ? ?
Well the local announcer in Wales spoke for most of the ident, leaving the final few seconds clear -- but this was because he could tie in quick promo of Welsh interest.
I agree that the hook needed to come to the beginning so the announcer won't talk over it, and I think bringing the form-up of the logo forward is better.
Nevertheless, these idents were not designed for such a thing, which is probably why it looks a bit of a mess. The circles are just random now; as people have said, the story's gone.
The red looks terrible too, particularly on notably non-red idents such as forest, but I suppose they need to try and bring the colour back to the forefront.
The new music on Bikes sounds very christmasy to me too. I think it's the bells.
Well i think they've grown on me over the day (with the possible exception of Football who's music is just terrible). One of the first I saw was Football so wasn't keen to begin with, some of the others are better. Whether they are better than the originals, well, no.
Many of the idents seem to have lost their impact, as some have already said, the story has been lost. Neon's a bit naff now withut the start (I'm undecided on it's music). Capes is fine, as is Hippos (they kept the music pretty much the same on this one which is nice). I don't think Bikes works that well, the msuic no longer seems to fit with the visuals. Kites is another good one (nice to see it's return) and like the new music.
What I don't like is the sound effects used on some (bell ring on Capes, engine on Bikes, crowd cheer on Football).
I think most of the shortened idents are alright. Having said that the red in the hippo ident looks out of place, and butchering 'dogs' (insert your own joke here) and a couple others looses some of the fun in them. I think a few longer idents are still required for when the announcer has a lot of text to say to avoid it being rushed.
The short form ups are fine, the hook should have been at the beginning in the first place. But where is the story in why the circles form. That has been lost and it's a real shame.
Also with the original idents red was a theme running subtly through them , such as the red fish in Hippos, the red footballs in Footballers, the red kites in Kites etc. Maybe they should have kept it going.
