Well, it didn't say it had a rating to be fair. Wink

So tonight the new 'National Lottery Friday Draws' launched which now also features Thunderball.

Alan Dedicoat now has to work 3 nights per week.

But I wonder why the BBC1 announcer felt the need to say that the programme was recorded earlier this evening, as I doubt the old 'National Lottery Euromillions draw' programme was live either!?

Something interesting I managed to pull out of Martin Lambie-Nairn's book ("Branding for Television: With Knobs On") is that it is implied that the 1991 ident was not computer generated, but instead was modeled (using 3 globes of different sizes on a special rig), filmed and then digitally colour corrected to create the ident on screen.

That was my understanding of how that globe was made too. Quite a lot (possibly all) of the 1991 '2's were filmed in a studio too- I'm sure I've seen footage of a crew of people pulling 2's away from a 2 fixed to a rig - which became the 'Paper' (or was it called 'Calendar'?) ident.

Yes, all of the '2s' all were filmed in a studio - A very deliberate decision by L-N as they had accidentally set off the flying CG logo trend with C4 and didn't want to copy themselves (or anybody else). However, a lot of people think (including this VERY accurate source) think the smokey globe was CG.

Yes the original 9 '2s' were all filmed as Lambie-Nairn wanted to move away from the computer idents that all of the other channels like Sky were having at the time. I remember the footage of the people pulling the paper 2s and that was definitely.

I had no idea that the smokey globe wasn't CG though. Shocked

That would be Diary and the footage you mention (which also features the production of the Steam ident) was on the TV Live YouTube channel until we got pulled. I'll try to get it back on to the site asap.

The 2000 batch (created internally) saw the first purely CG idents added to set. One thing I've always wanted to know: was the Woodpecker ident real or CG? Impressive if it was CG.

Because someone would probably complain if they didn't.

With Saturday evenings being so crowded in both the Spring and Autumn on BBC1, I think it's time Casualty was moved back to Fridays, and then the Euromillions/Thunderball draws shown at 9.50pm - though I guess once JR is out of the way, it'll move to 10.35pm.

On another note..... does BBC One now have a 'Saturday Night voice'? The reason I ask is that it's been the same female announcer every Saturday night now for a 4 weeks or so. Is there a reason for this? Is there no longer a Sat night rota?

Don't get me wrong she is good!

The behind the scenes footage of the filming of the later batch of the '2' idents including diary was shown as an item on 'How Do They Do That'
