Hole in the Wall was made in BBC HD studios though (series one was TC, Series 2 was at PQ), which is a whole different thing to Total Wipeout which is made on location (in Argentina?). Making such a complex show in HD would presumably be fairly costly, particularly with all the 'chat' elements between events which look as if they're done with camcorders to me. In fact Total Wipeout looks rather odd throughout to my eyes - is it made in NTSC or something? I also smell a rat when it comes to Richard Hammond's links. Is he really out there in Argentina too? Looks like a CSO to me and could well be done in London... he never appears on camera on location ... or at least I've never seen him ...
He went out there and recorded a series of links which they showed in the second series; but the rest of his links is done from a set in the UK made up of a back projection screen, some parcans and a couple of lengths of trussing.
I suppose it would be a fair bet that the cameras and other equipment in Argentina is used by all broadcasters when they come to shoot their versions.
Yes, I also heard that the IPPs are gone for both Who and Norton and will not return.
Oooh its nice being in the know occasionally.

I'm surprised that, with it being part of BBC One's Saturday Primetime, that Total Wipeout isn't in HD. They've been showing other various shows in it's slot, like Hole in the Wall.

From what I hear though, the animated ones have been disposed of for good.
