Indeed not.

BBC One Wales are the best place to watch Dr Who and Torchwood, not least because they have that nice ident at the beginning! Wink

Which ident is that? The Mission Control one?

I don't think so, they have their own BBC Cymru Wales frontcap that appears before their programmes.

As posted three posts before yours by Hyma...

It honestly beggers belief what they did last night. Aside from using it at all, the graphics team can't design a decent looking IPP for toffee! Totally intrusive and amateurish.

I'd be holding my head in disbelief if I was on the production team having crafted out the writing, camera shots, editing and post production to find the Marketing department go and shove an ugly caption over a key scene. It just proves they couldn't care less about the quality of output going out, providing they get their message across.

They have apologised and admitted it wasn't a suitable time for an IPP... It did look a little like "we've made these new IPP's, which can only be used once per evening (being branded for the next programme), so we have to use them regardless of what happens in the previous programme".

The thing that gets me is now that credits have to scroll by decree why can't they put them over the credits instead of that horrible squeeze they do that bounces the programme around?

I must admit I taped one Dr Who from BBC Wales during the 2007 series(Gridlock) & they accidently faded up part of a trail, during the closing scene with Boe, so I went back to BBC England.

I'm surprised that, with it being part of BBC One's Saturday Primetime, that Total Wipeout isn't in HD. They've been showing other various shows in it's slot, like Hole in the Wall.

This article has a video of the offending thing on it. Hadn't actually seen it in real life as last week's ep is still sat on the V+ ready to watch but my god that's hideous isn't it? Who honestly thought that was a good idea? It's sub-MTV in tack level.

Don't know if it's more annoying that rather than issuing their usual brush off of it being what the viewers want that they've admitted it was a mistake that shouldn't have played out.

The info shows it was designed to play out over Doctor Who, and someone made the decision - and just as they shouldn't brush aside viewers complaints, they shouldn't be brushing aside their own decisions so easily too.

I would read this as a fair admission that somebody made an error of editorial judgement. This is not necessarily a kneejerk response to the volume of complaints - it goes against BBC policy to run IPPs during drama anyway.

Does that mean they'll scrap these altogether?

Of course not. Knowing the BBC they''ll probably decide the best solution is to use a non-animated version next week!

From what I hear though, the animated ones have been disposed of for good.

Hole in the Wall was made in BBC HD studios though (series one was TC, Series 2 was at PQ), which is a whole different thing to Total Wipeout which is made on location (in Argentina?). Making such a complex show in HD would presumably be fairly costly, particularly with all the 'chat' elements between events which look as if they're done with camcorders to me. In fact Total Wipeout looks rather odd throughout to my eyes - is it made in NTSC or something? I also smell a rat when it comes to Richard Hammond's links. Is he really out there in Argentina too? Looks like a CSO to me and could well be done in London... he never appears on camera on location ... or at least I've never seen him ...
