They don't need a logo to form straight away for us to know we're watching BBC One. We know we are watching BBC One both because of the familiar idents we are all used to

Surely they're so familiar that we don't need to see the whole thing every time?

I've not seen them on air yet but they look quite good, shorter and snappier is good

I wonder if they are going to put the new edits on the BBC One website Smile

It would take longer for the flash video to load, than it takes for the BBC One logo to form up.

Short and snappy is good in terms of continuity announcements and hitting timing queues before the show starts but the fact that these idents were all about what happened during the form up, these things have been butchered. If they had these as well as the originals I wouldn't mind, but it looks like they've replaced the original award winning idents. The fun has been taken out of them.

The new Forest music is lovely. Though I think it highlights more than the others the fact that showing the logo before the circle has even appeared is a bit odd. Anyway - surely the first few shots have been trimmed enough for them to be able to wait a split second more for the form-up. It seems a little impatient.

Cut-down Neon sounds like a cross between 1980s Doctor Who and World In Action, with a horrible screechy echo on the 'hook'. Not totally convinced on the red swirl, either, but it's by no means the worst of the new idents.

The thing I don't understand is the BBC wanted the shorter idents so the announcer could talk over them quicker and not wait for the line up. On this video I found on YouTube though the announcer waits 20 seconds in to the ident before speaking ? ? ?

Fifteen seconds, actually, once you've taken off the menu at the start of the clip; but yes, it is strange that she waits so long (ten seconds after the end of the form-up itself). Force of habit, maybe? - or perhaps the goodwill of the announcer to let people like us hear more of the music on its first outing (such as that of the original 'Dog Display', when Welsh director Dan Austin waited 34 seconds).

She has probably been told to wait for the first 15 seconds so the viewer could tell that the ident had a new theme. Otherwise the viewer may have been confused?

The junction into 1v100 seemed very rushed. I think the new bike ident is aweful a real shame as this was one of the strongest imo. So much of the character of this ident was in the music. The new is not a patch on the old.

It's quite ironic that Channel 4 allow their idents to breathe but it is BBC1 that has to cut it's idents because they don't have time to show the full length ones properly. Surely BBC1 (and 2) should have more time than anyone else to show full idents

Exactly. The BBC junctions seem far too long as it is.
