I know this is a BBC1 thread but I have to say that Five's idents really are rather good and what they do is that the Five is always inside a circle. That is what BBC1 should be doing. The 'BBC One' on its own isn't as striking unless there is a circle around it.

While were on the subject - did anyone get the closedowns from Christmas Eve into Christmas Day?

I was unable to record BBC One's as they handed over to the news channel behind schedule, messing up my timer record, but I can offer BBC Two's Christmas Eve closedown and Christmas Day start up. The ident in the latter went out clean, albeit with a clear fade of the audio in anticipation of an announcement. I guess the pre-recorded announcement failed to play?

Why have the BBC made 'So You Think You Can Dance' look and sound just like The X Factor? I'm sure it works in America where they don't have The X Factor but why would anyone watch the show in this country?

It was created by Simon Fuller who created 'Idol' which was a heavy influence on X Factor so it's not surprising there are similarities
