BBC One

This one I do know. Unfortunately there will be no new BBC2 ident this year. We're getting cutout again. Suzie told me that on another site.

I have to say I'm pleased, well not pleased but relieved, God knows what we could have ended up with given the results of this year's refresh. Let's hope they leave the package as it is and don't try to bring it in line with the June 2009 style.

BBC Two presentation is in dire straits and it looks as though no-one is going to hand it an oar.

Three consecutive christmases for the bbc2 xmas ident then. If bbc1 can manage a new festive ident each year since 2004, why can't their sister channel? Magic Sprite is a good ident but it's now outstaying its welcome IMO.

I guess BBC Two will be recycling Christmas idents from now on like BBC Four does (they had a same Christmas ident every year since 2005). They most probably run out of ideas for new idents seeing as they haven't added any new regular idents since introducing the package in 2007. Still at least they bother with Christmas idents unlike Channel 4.

Yes, that's a first I think. Admittedly the BBC2 ident in 2001 was used for another 3 Christmases as well, BUT in the 2 years following 2001, there was new additions. Basically by 2003 we had three different idents, all of which were re-used in 2004.

So since 2001, only on 2 occasions have BBC2 not re-cycled (2005 and 2007).

Well they could be using real reindeer for the close-up ground shots and CGI for the flying ones. Since they supposedly began filming this ident in March (actually in Lapland, maybe?) it is possible the ident could be that complex.

It's now official, bbc1's christmas ident will start airing on Saturday 19th December (not the 12th as had been speculated).

This info was posted on Duncan Newmarch's Twitter page (he is one of the bbc1 announcers in case anyone didn't know).

EDIT- sorry, have since found out it WILL start on the 12th after all (see below).

Duncan's corrected himself now - it is indeed the 12th.

I thought the 19th was a bit late for BBC1 - they like to get him on air early.

Yes, sorry about that. I have seen the finished ident (I think it's excellent but then I'm biased) but can't say any more until the TX.
