I've just seen the full original 2006 version of the kites ident at tonight's 10:35 junction.

Are bbc1 now starting to mix some of the old versions with the new ones? If so, why did they bother making the shorter versions in the first place?? Confused

I'm unsure as to whether this is due to the old idents remaining in the playout system or because they are indeed starting to reintroduce the original cuts. I've seen the original Capes once or twice post refresh and put it down to error but sightings of the pre-May idents are becoming more common. Could someone clear this up?

It is weird that the SCD ident has started airing several weeks into the series, it's quite basic compared to the other circle idents but still a nice surprise and quite reminiscent of the old style globe.

In fact it's not dissimilar to bbc1's 1981 christmas ident.

Could it BE this year's christmas ident? Just change the soundtrack to festive music and pretend they are baubles, job done!

(Before anyone gets on my case, I know it's not the christmas ident!)

I think a Strictly ident was long overdue and especially should have been ready for the first show IMO. This though is cheap and nasty with little thought put in. The circle idents were meant to be people/things coming together to form a circle. This is simply a shot of something circular. Would a more fitting symbol not been something like a Viennese Waltz (a dance well known for it's rotation/circular movement) with dancers going round a dancefloor? To simply have shots of some glitterballs with no reveal is dissapointing. It's not as though they would have to have looked hard for some professional dancers to appear in the symbol is it? AFAIK the original set were never "officially" withdrawn, just replaced by the new edits. They certainly have remained in the playout system, but, I would say of late these have been scheduled by the planners by mistake.

I always thought what they should have done was have the short edits sitting alongside the original ones. Them for shorter junctions use the short edits and for longer junctions use the originals.

Good to see a good couple of references to TSW in there. Cool

The "East Midlands" on some of the idents looked a bit bodged.

Looks like 12th December for Christmas Idents

Isn't that a bit early or do they always usually start 2 weeks before Christmas Day?

It's the law they must start on a Saturday and one day earlier each year (two in a leap year). Come the year 2100, they'll start on 1 August.

Basically, the BBC are now taking the p*ss.

Every year I think they couldn't go any earlier, and they go and do it. I expect a feast of Christmas programming to kick off that Saturday night then? Yeah, thought not.

Caught this week's POV and it seems someone from Media Planning is turning up in a few weeks to roll out the usual justifications for the credit squeeze. Did like the Miranda show clip though where they've done a Perry and Croft style "You have been watching" end credits to avoid the squeeze (at least over the main character names).

Is that definite, jumpinjack? If so, I'll be getting bored of it by Christmas Day (which is 13 days later!!). Let's hope they have produced more than 1 ident as if they are going to be shown for nearly 3 weeks then we could do with a bit of variety.

Doctor Who seems to be the most speculated theme for bbc1's christmas idents this year. Does anyone out there know if bbc2's got a new ident for the festive season this year?
