New ident for Strictly.

How bizarre to launch it mid-series. Delays I guess? Confused

Strictly Come Dancing is from Blackpool this week, a big event for BBC One. Although maybe it would make more sense to use the Blackpool ident today.

Hope a psychic member managed to record it!

I'll upload it in a minute if no one else does.

I thought it would have made more sense to go with the Blackpool ident today. They should have used this at the start of the series. And the BBC One swirl didn't finish on the circle if you know what I mean? The circle is bigger than the swirl. Well once it's uploaded you'll see what I'm talking about.....hopefully.

I doubt it was delayed, it's not the most complex ident I have ever seen.

I'm not sure if it looks more like Winnie the Pooh or Micky Mouse. What do others think?

The closest thing you'll get to a spinning globe on BBC One these days!

I was expecting something more extravagant but it's nice in its own quaint way, reminiscent of idents of yesteryear. The white swirl looks a lot neater than its red successor.

It does look a lot neater though I'm quite surprised they used the white one.

Now if the glitterball was rotating in the opposite direction what would it have reminded us all of....

It's a nice symbol - simple and quite understated.

However - a liitle rant...

It's a darned good thing that the symbol is for BBC ONE. In this digital age, can you imagine how the high compression and low bit rates on other channels would render it? A not too dissimilar example is the swimming pool ident on ITV2. I've not yet seen it broadcast without any artefacting (?!).

When will designers understand that what they see on their high-res/high-def screens is not necessarily what the viewers will experience.

You're right it's the white swirl instead of a red one. Didn't even realise until you pointed it out.

I agree the white swirl looks better and the red one does seem faint to me.

It is weird that the SCD ident has started airing several weeks into the series, it's quite basic compared to the other circle idents but still a nice surprise and quite reminiscent of the old style globe.

In fact it's not dissimilar to bbc1's 1981 christmas ident.

Could it BE this year's christmas ident? Just change the soundtrack to festive music and pretend they are baubles, job done!

(Before anyone gets on my case, I know it's not the christmas ident!)

I've just seen the full original 2006 version of the kites ident at tonight's 10:35 junction.

Are bbc1 now starting to mix some of the old versions with the new ones? If so, why did they bother making the shorter versions in the first place?? Confused
