There's a brief shot of some 3D golden lit 'B' 'B' 'C' blocks being hoisted up on ropes which looked quite nice for an ident. Didn't see it feature in any end shot so there's a possibility I suppose

That's what I thought. Why put BBC like that in a trailer. Made me wonder if it was being done for a reason and I always thought that Strictly was long overdue a themed ident.

How interesting. I do wonder if they are using some of the material from the specially made trailer. Isn't it great to have themed idents again after the Rhythm & Movement era pretty much abandoned them? Very Happy

We've had Wallace & Gromit, Ashes To Ashes, Strictly Come Dancing and apparently Doctor Who this Christmas!!

Please no. Wallace and Gromit was christmassy because it was fun and animated. Somehow, I feel a Doctor Who ident would look boring, non-christmassy and become very tired after the first few showings. If they brought back penguins and snowball it might work (though unlikely due to the now shortened idents).

Looks like the BBC are set to snap up So you think you can Dace - so yet another dance show for BBC Saturday nights (though admittedly it's not been as bad this year), and yet another established hit forum the BBC can ruin by getting Graham Norton to host and tweaking it to suit middle England. I think many assumed if this ever did come to the UK, it would be on ITV rather than the BBC.

Buzzwords in the article include 'hip' and 'streetwise' - you can guarantee it won't be any of those things after the BBC are finished with it.

Not sure this is true?

Another Big Questions breakdown this morning - they cut to the slide within five seconds but it was another 15 seconds or so before the announcement was made. It lasted long enough for them to start playing some music (it wasn't the ident themes, though). Nicky Campbell acknowledged the breakdown a few minutes after the return and apologised.

A Dr Who ident for Christmas 2009?? Is this pure speculation or can anyone back this up? Suziechan is usually a reliable source of info on these matters.

I do like Doctor Who but I don't think that an associated ident would feel "festive" enough.

Back in March someone suggested that this years Christmas ident was already in production and that it will be themed around Doctor Who. I believe such an ident would alienate people who don't think the world revolves around Doctor Who and the Christmas ident should have universal appeal with something like, I don't know... Santa Claus? Just a wild suggestion.
