There were several short interruptions to The Big Questions this morning (at least 4 I think). The announcer on duty was Matthew Jackson and each time, he had barely apologised for the loss of the programme when he was able to reintroduce it! I think on the 3rd interruption he blamed some satellite problems. Presumably a large storm? Or a dodgy link from the scanner... No music was played (there wasn't time!).

There were problems with a rogue carrier coming up on the same satellite channel, which knocked the programme off air.
(bad storms? The OB was in Croydon!)

Doesn't seem to be available on BBC Iplayer oddly... can anyone upload it to Youtube?

The BBC want quick responses on air to any problems so that's what you end up with!

Surprised there wasn't a reserve circuit - a terrestrial link into Crystal Palace wouldn't have been too difficult from a location in Croydon, would it?

I think he must have been getting a bit piddled with all the interruptions. "Sorry for the interruption....oh we can go back."

If you listen to the second break down, it actually sounds like the programme comes back just as the break down slide is put to air.

I'd expect this to be on Iplayer by now but maybe the fact that it was a Sunday/Bank holiday is slowing the process down since they obviously can't use the off air version which I believe they would do normally. They also have a slight problem with the subtitles. Whereas live shows have obviously been told to carry on as normal even when there is a transmission problem (see also the Something for the Weekend break down from a few months ago), the subtitles reflect the broadcast version including the continuity annoucements.

Speaking of continuity, this breakdown was not mentioned again at the end of the show by either Nicky Campbell or the CA. For the record, I do feel compassion for the CA and offer both him and Nicky Campbell my forgiveness. It's what Jesus would have wanted.

So this is the second time in a few weeks when a BBC OB has been taken off air by dual illumination?

If the links were provided by SIS, then perhaps - but I believe this was an Arqiva OB, so they'd probably have had to pay more to use the links at CP.

Yup. Bit of bad luck, really.

I saw a long trailer on BBC1 for the new series of Strictly Come Dancing. There was something about it that made me think a special themed ident for the show is on the way.

There's a brief shot of some 3D golden lit 'B' 'B' 'C' blocks being hoisted up on ropes which looked quite nice for an ident. Didn't see it feature in any end shot so there's a possibility I suppose
