Indeed it was.
Presumably the original ident was a regional effort at that time?

Until recently, my reaction to this would've been that it was a mistake/fault.
But, given the recent brainwaves that the creative geniuses have been having...

Comedy Central Extra have started showing repeats of Not Going Out. Thought it was series 2's Christmas episode so hit record and just watched it back and realised it's actually this year's Christmas special not yet shown on the BBC!
Can't think of many occasions where a BBC series has had its episode premiered on a niche satellite channel before a channel of its own.

Is it possible this was a mistake and Paramount were sent the wrong episode or is it just a case of the BBC being slow to show it?

I can't think of any. There are US imports like Heroes that get shown quietly on SciFi and then shown with fanfare and millions of viewers on the BBC.

About 2 or 3 episodes of ITV's The Sketch Show (ironically starring both Lee Mack and Tim Vine) were shown on Paramount Comedy when ITV didn't bother showing them at all.
Anyone else seen that rather classy 'This Week on the BBC' promo at the moment? They're just showing off their Arts programmes in a different style and font, when it says BBC TWO it must be the same font from the 86-91 era.

Didn't Paramount Comedy also show series 2 of Frank Skinner's series Shane that ITV didn't show any episodes off?

They have been slacking lately. It is almost as if they don't care. I have noticed on these slides that the text disappears before the next trailer or ident starts which never happened before.

This happens on Network only I believe and has been going on for the last few months. It started (I think) with the introduction of the additional imagery in the background (e.g., special background for the clocks going forward, and more recently, the addition of visuals from the idents). When they used the simpler red animating background, overlaying the text didn't seem to be such an issue. Now, as you say, it seems to disappear just ahead of the next event. Looks very clumsy.
