Here's an oddity, brought to my attention by my mum.

The current run of Pointless on BBC One is series 7, from 2012. Tuesday's was episode 59, Wednesday's was episode 60. Apparently in episode 60 there was a £19,750 winner. Any thoughts as to why they might have skipped it this time round?

The Edinburgh Tattoo is on in its place. Was that not traditionally shown on New Year's Day?

Er, no, because it takes place in August.

The One Show was indeed never scheduled to be shown on Monday, hence why it doesn't appear in the Radio Times or anywhere.

I know it takes place in August - I just seem to remember during my childhood it was televised over the festive period. Perhaps that was only in Scotland?

edit: I'm not imagining things - BBC Scotland repeat it in the early evening on Hogmanay. I guess I've just somehow managed to always miss its August appearance.

***I assume you mean 61 - anyway, the apparent answer is here:

Quote:
In the head to head question about photography, Clare and Nat answered the question 'what is the name of an individual light sensitive cell in a digital camera' with the answer 'sensor'. This was deemed wrong and they scored 100. Several people phoned in and said they were right and as the BBC now have the policy that every quiz show must be whiter than white, they decided not to show it again.

It was a bit of a dodgy question, but only a bit, and the others had the lowest answer so they couldn't have won. Bit of fuss over nothing, really. There are YouTube links on the page above to the episode in question.

No, not on Monday.

Edit - this post was in reply to one that has since been deleted.

Ugh, they should've just put up a disclaimer. Today's episode of Pointless was back to £1000, and I thought, "eh, that should mean someone won yesterday, but I'm sure they lost!" How many viewers will have been confused because of the missing episode? It's not like the mistake affected the result. Confused

Well, a look through the Radio Times points out it was indeed shown on network BBC1 on the morming of New Year's Day 1985, 1986 and 1987, and on network BBC2 in the morning of New Year's Day 1988. But all those are billed as repeats and its first showing has always been in August, either on the Bank Holiday Monday or earlier that weekend. Indeed I remember on at least one occasion in the last few years being rescheduled in Scotland so they could show a full-length Reporting Scotland.

Now it's time for our annual tradition, Asking If STV Are Showing A Full Length Scotland Today On Monday Teatime Or Not Bothering And Just Sticking With The You've Been Framed Repeat Like The Rest Of The Network. And, in the grand tradition, the answer is of course no, they're not bothering.
