Lydiate on the ball today with the junction at half 7 long version of capes with the first 19 seconds of it clean....Excellent Smile Capes beginning to grow on me

That is the point though. There is no need for the changes for junctions where there is room to air the old form ups.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks that the new version of Helicopter is better, although the old one was good, it was a little too morbid/sombre for my liking, but saying that I think that was the whole point of that ident.

The music is fantastic! Loved it from the first moment I heard it. They let it play for several seconds without any talking and it's just wonderful. I wish they kept the original as well though because that was perfect into serious programming or the news.

Having these new short versions alongside the original would be what I'd do. It keeps the brand fresh .

The only reason to have short versions is if you have short links and need a quick ident. But many of the junctions I've seen have been long ones where the originals could have been shown.

What they did to the Helicopter ident, was not only a ruining of the atmosphere, but it was disingenuous to the singer who performed the music for that ident.

I am on record as believing Helicopter was the best of the idents, and the music was beautiful and haunting.

Jeez.. I'm sure the singer is doing okay.

Yes I am sure she is, but that doesn't excuse the actions. Music replacement, means a loss of royalties, as well as the fact she was replaced.

I do think the change in music was a mistake, it was the only piece to have any atmosphere, and a sense of class and emotion.

On the plus side, Kites is much improved with its new cut and music.

Couldn't agree with you more MDTA. Helicopter is ruined. Capes and Kites much improved IMO. Such a shame really. While it seems the music in general is much more upbeat across the board, I think they'll soon find they need at least one more downbeat soundtrack.

Helicopter is much better, really the old soundtrack was a bit to annoying.

I just really did not like the singing.

Disingenuous is to be "slightly dishonest; not speaking the complete truth".

I think you mean discourteous.

I'm gonna have to agree with mdta as well, the 'singing' is what made that ident special. Now they've replaced it with a contemporary soundtrack it just seems ordinary.

I am so bored of this notion that Helicopter was ever anything special. Stick a vaguely haunting soundtrack which is completely incongruous alongside some fairly well shot footage of nothing particularly remarkable and suddenly it's an artistic masterpiece which evokes a profound emotion from the viewer. B*llocks. It's a helicopter. Just like every other BBC One ident (with the exception of Moon), it's a cringeworthy attempt to capture a certain mood, and its impact amounts to precisely nothing.

I was never a fan of the Helicopter ident myself - as an ident I just thought it lacked any identity. However, as a piece of film it was pretty superb, and far better than the cut down version.
