But it's not beyond the realms of possibility that a graphic showing the next four programmes could be generated on the fly in a similar way to the BBC World breakfiller?

Breakfillers like the one you refer to are created well in advance using the graphics system.

Menus for the evening's line-up are created every day and are available pretty much all the time.

I remember years ago when I worked in Pres that there was some system to semi-automatically produce menu slides for the evening. They sat there on the capgen and hardly ever made it to air.

But it's not beyond the realms of possibility that a graphic showing the next four programmes could be generated on the fly in a similar way to the BBC World breakfiller?

Yes I'm sure that would be possible (not in the same way as BBC World's did it of course - that used teletext). However I can see it might not be that useful, firstly the announcer couldn't prepare nice 'tonight on BBC1' script as it what he/she would have to say would constantly change. Secondly listing the next x number of programmes isn't always that great an idea. Late at night for example where pointing towards 'Weatherview, BBC News Channel, Breakfast and whatever's on at 9am isn't that useful, whereas having a pre-built menu for tomorrow night is much more useful.

The other thing to consider is that the slides would probably still need editing in some way, long programme names could be an issue for example

Next week's Apprentice has moved to Tuesday, and Watchdog has moved to Thursday - swapping places with Frankie and Waterloo Road respectively. Anyone got any idea why?

Only thing that is remotely plausible reason is its the finals week of BGT over on itv?

There isn't any BGT on Wednesday because of the England v Ireland match, so maybe they're making sure that either The Apprentice doesn't clash with that or Frankie does for some reason? The Apprentice hasn't been doing that well apparently so I don't see why they'd put it up against BGT

EastEnders isn't on Monday either, there's an extra ep on Wednesday!

The Apprentice hasn't been reaching the heights of its imperial phase but it's doing perfectly well, last night it got over a million more than Scott and Bailey on ITV and that's a popular show. It seems that BBC1 know they're going to take a hit with BGT so they're shuffling stuff around to give them more of a fighting chance. Wednesday night is going to be heavily male-skewing for ITV with the football so it makes sense to move the female-skewing stuff to Wednesday on BBC1 and offer an alternative.

And as mentioned, there's no 'stEnders on Monday because on Wednesday it can go out there instead and avoid any kind of BGT clash, and at 7.30 too. You'll also note Friday's 'stEnders is on at 7.30, taking advantage of Corrie at nine. And the week after, when 'stEnders is at nine on the Friday, Corrie runs 7.30-8.30 for the same reason.

"Hippos" to introduce Breakfast... Interesting choice - particularly when there's still a serious story as the main headline!

There's very little 'joined up thinking' or sensitivity with some contempory presentation depts

True. You'd have to wait for a royal death for that to apply.

From over in the News Channel thread - a bit of a playout problem in BH meant that BBC One started the day with an evening menu and some music last Wednesday.

(this was followed by a couple of trails and an ident, before the regular start of Breakfast)
