Lawns and Dog Display have been ruined. The irony is that for some of the links they've been so long they could have used the longer idents. The short edits would work when you have a short link but I see no reason why they had to ditch the originals.

If BBC1 had these idents mixed in with the originals they would have had a large number of idents and the channel's presentation would have been exceptional. Some of the new music is great, the new Helicopter music is brilliant and sounds likec chopper blades whizzing around. But why not keep the original as well as it was still suitable to use before serious programming.

I agree they should have re-edited the original ones into the shorter versions but keeping the same music, and then run these along side the original long versions

Having a form up and then 10 secs of a bed, before the announcer starts talking makes it look like a mistake

Yesterday at least, BBC One West were still playing out the old version of Forest. Not sure about the other symbols; I'll have to check it sometime.

Lawn has been absolutely ruined. What was a very unusual, rather eerie ident has now become an odd ident. Just think: if we hadn't seen the old long version for just under two years, would we have known what was going on?

What's also annoying about the new lawn ident is the inconsistency of the opening sequence. First of all we see a woman with a lawnmower and a woman on a tractor, but the birds-eye-view shot shows two women with lawnmowers. That's because the original didn't zoom out from the shot of the woman on the tractor! They haven't thought these through very well... The long versions with the logo hanging around and unrelated to the action just look stupid. Confused

The best thing they could've done is keep the original 16 as they are and re-edit them all so that they have the immediate hook and circle right away, with the same music. That would mean the announcers have a choice of whether it's going to be a long announcement or a short one, and the viewers would be none the wiser.

The only music I actually like compared to the old is Forest and possibly Kites, the rest are poor.

It all seems a bit rushed now - I prefered the longer idents where they took their time to introduce the next programme. The programme trailers are fast-paced enough as it is.

I think the new long versions, such as surfers, would benefit with having the gfx swirl twice, once at the start then as the action circle appears.

That's exactly what I think.

Do we want to take a bet on how long it'll be before these ones are tweaked again?

I don't see the point in the long idents in their current form now as the video behind it isn't as obvious as it was before with a logo slapped on the middle of the screen. As well as that, if the logo is already on the screen, does it matter what point the video behind it is upto?

Mind you idents from 20 years ago, never used to be more than 30 seconds, more like 15 seconds tops.

That being the whole point behind these edits.

However, do you mean the situation whereby you get 20secs of the short story Hippo or Capes where the announcer doesn't speak for the first 15sec: in which case why not show the long story versions?
