The One Show studio sounds like a modern day 'Pres A/B' - the small studios used for small scale basic studio programmes at TV Centre
This Morning studio at ITV was/is used in a similar way, that is used for other programmes but not necessarily with the window view. The London Tonight studio (the one later used by Daybreak) was also used for other things like Sport between bulletins.
Incidently anyone know what will happen to Watchdog once TV Centre closes? I assume they'l go back to an office studio combo... where-ever their office moves to

Doubt it - the show is really a studio show now, can't see it moving back to office presentation - and doing it from Broadcasting House (where Watchdog will be moving along with the rest of London Factual) would be quite tricky I suspect. Expect they'll go to a small facilities operation in London - my money would be on The Hospital or Riverside - as they both have small-ish HD studios.
The One Show seems to be a recorded special this evening. Presented by Alex Jones and Chris Evans it is in a different location, it has an effect applied to the picture and it is shot differently, with very tight close ups of Jones and Evans being used when they are speaking.
So far, there just isn't the normal The One Show fun, it just doesn't seem right. The One Show needs to be live and needs to be predominantly about The One Show itself, not about The Rolling Stones.
Seems that the BBC are bringing down the curtain on Merlin at the end of this year. Extraordinarily successful in it's slot over the five years. Will be interesting to see what they use in the schedule in 2013.

Doctor Who? I heard they will run the next series fully in Autumn/Winter time.
the National Lottery Awards on the 8th December will be live from The London Studios. Obviously there are regular BBC shows like HIGNFY and Graham Norton which are recorded at TLS, but does anyone remember the last time TLS did something live on the BBC?

Actually, it was ended by the production company, Shine.
