Not very keen about that new version of the Surfers ident, especially since it it hasn't been re-edited with new shots or music. It seems as though they couldn't be bothered with it and now looks odd among the rest of the set, which reminds me, has Lawn Circles, Moon or Penguins, been shown yet?
I could be completely wrong but I seem to recall Surfers having a short ending (presumably due to lack of footage of the surfers) therefore they'll have had to show more of the form-up rather than the ending.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
As for the rest of the edits, it's a hit and miss for me. I understand what they're trying to do and the idea is clever (the number of junctions I've seen where the BBC One Scotland logo doesn't appear at all...) but it just looks wrong to see the circle form-up before the shape is even seen on-screen. The music on Helicopter is a letdown too.
Watching the News on BBC One, and afterwards they used the original Hippos ident (not the long version though) wonder if it was a mistake or they have done a u-turn.

I hope not, these new idents seem a bit fresher.
If they have, I blame all the people who went "Oh, there is no story to the idents, lets cry about it, BBC will revert to the original ones"
Are you sure it was the original, the new version does have the same soundtrack.

Did it have a white swirl?
White swirl, it was longer than the new version also the fish actually swum over the logo.

Oh dear, I hope it's a error, I really think the new shorter edits are better.

They are better for fast junctions, but on the whole longer idents work well. At the moment where the short edits are being used for every junction we have the 3 sec form up, and then 15-20secs before the announcer speaks. Enough time for the full ident form up.
Lawns and Dog Display have been ruined. The irony is that for some of the links they've been so long they could have used the longer idents. The short edits would work when you have a short link but I see no reason why they had to ditch the originals.
If BBC1 had these idents mixed in with the originals they would have had a large number of idents and the channel's presentation would have been exceptional. Some of the new music is great, the new Helicopter music is brilliant and sounds likec chopper blades whizzing around. But why not keep the original as well as it was still suitable to use before serious programming.
Can anyone confirm if the Moon ident was included in the re-edits and if so did it also receive a new soundtrack? As per usual, NE & Cumbria used the original (short) Moon into the 10 but the new Capes was seen at lunchtime.
