Especially considering the dog used to run over the logo... if baffles why they don't use that if they already have it edited!

Yes it's really annoying to watch Dogs and Hippos with the logo being slapped over the action.
I was really annoyed the other day when I saw Capes (my favourite ident
) cut and the music changed, that I sent a complaint to the Beeb. Here's their reply:
Thank you for your email regarding BBC idents.
I understand you felt the edits to the most recent idents on BBC One have spoiled the appeal of these idents and have therefore wasted licence fee money.
I appreciate your concerns however it is necessary to have shorter idents as well as longer ones to provide flexibility between programmes while maintaining BBC branding on our channels.
I realise you feel differently and therefore I'd like to assure you that we have registered your comments on our audience log. This is the internal report of audience feedback which we compile daily for all programme makers and commissioning executives within the BBC, and also their senior management. It ensures that your points, and all other comments we receive, are circulated and considered across the BBC.
Thanks again for taking the time to contact the BBC.

As for some of the other idents with long versions, having BBC One there at the start without a circle around it just looks wrong. The 'BBC One' on its own looks bland.

That's true, and the longer versions are just some video now with BBC One slapped across it. Looks poor.

Surfer has survived and stangely enough no changes have been made apart from the BBC ONE logo being visible throughout

It's nice that we can still see the intro to the ident, but contrary to most of the other cuts, the intro has now become the whole ident! If they are going to cut to programme so quickly after the proper form up, surely something is lost? The ident just becomes a series of (nicely done) shots of a surfer. The whole original point of the ident, the circle is relegated to a brief shot at the end of the ident.
The logo might be more prominent but the big idea of the ident is somewhat diluted. It's confusing because in the shorter cuts, the circle has become much more prominent. I'm not sure they can have it both ways.
