I'm not sure I agree with everyone here. The simple white BBC blocks and Olympic rings on their own have their own limitations. You end up with two identically rendered BBC blocks on-screen at once - and I think the tagline "Olympic Broadcaster" needs to remain.

Whilst I don't particularly like the white box and magenta logo - I think it's important for it NOT to look too integrated into the BBC One endboard, and to have its own separate identity.

I understand your point, but given a choice between the two, I'd have to go for the simple version. If only they'd designed something that looked good...

Is the big summer promo making its debut this weekend do we know?
EDIT: Answer is yes - here it is http://t.co/9RduqSiP

Excellent choice of song, but then I am biased as a major fan of The Beatles.

A very handy free advert for the Beatles and the re-release of 'Yellow Submarine' today!

Oh yes, the 1999 album Yellow Submarine Songtrack is being re-released also, possible inspiration at the BBC?

Yep - I think the original concept is the right one, badly executed.

BBC Points West just started 4 minutes late on BBC One - they had been showing BBC News Channel. They better be quick or they could crash into the Queen's message.

EDIT: They were quick, 2 stories, then a very flustered presenter wrapped up, reading a very brief weather forecast.

Maybe there were timing issues. BBC South East Today started a little late too, only a few seconds but enough to see Simon McCoy on the BBC News Channel. When they opted back, network were already a few seconds in to the weather.

Weirdly London also had a brief glimpse of the ticker bar over the closing shot of the news, nothing more than that though

Perhaps the national news ended earlier than scheduled due to The Queen's message and this wasn't properly communicated to the regions?

Not that weird - AIUI BBC One London opt out of the network sustaining feed, which is now the BBC News Channel (which will have a ticker on it).

As the Bank Holiday BBC One network news bulletins also come from the News Channel studio (but a feed without the ticker), there is a switch between ticker-free and ticker feeds just after the opt-out on the network feed. If BBC London were a little late opting out - then a bit of ticker will have been seen.

In the old days, the BBC London opt would have been the sustaining feed, but AIUI this is not the case any more. (BBC One HD opt-out to a sustaining 'We don't carry regional programmes' animation, BBC One SD network carries the BBC News Channel for the duration - at least outside of Breakfast)

I meant weirdly as in two other regions had problems too! I hardy ever see the news channel feed pop up so thought there must be something going on.

Does anyone know if BBC One will be getting new idents soon?

Well, it's not like the last set haven't been on for only a short period of time, so I would be hopeful that yes.

However with all that is going on inside the BBC with DQF, as well as all the high profile programming on this year, and us having a Conservative led government, I'd expect not until next year or the year after.
