Some slightly unusual stuff in the BBC1 NI 21:00 Junction earlier - starting in 16:9, then The Syndicate trail gets ARC'd to 4:3 (no idea why that was done - answers on a postcard), then back to 16:9 for Helicopter but it was the old, longer sequence set to the current soundtrack.

I'd guess the wrong aspect ratio information was attached to that item in the schedule. It's the sort of thing that wouldn't show up when the junction, was being previewed, only when it actually took to air.

And BBC NI added that version of Helicopter in January. They also have a long version of Penguins edited to the new music too.

Ah, so it's yet more NI-exclusive pres tweaks? They've thought of everything; well, compared to Network you'd be forgiven for thinking they have, anyway - good going.

Both are here.

It's been a pleasure watching NI for the past couple of weeks or so to see all the fine work that goes into their presentation. But one minor quibble, though: why the fine black outline around the text and BBC One logo on some of the trailers/menus? To me it looks out of place - especially as it's not present on the symbols.

Easter weekend I tried to record as many BBC One idents as possible. I've got most of the current regular set already, but can't seem to get the following:

Dog Display Team (dog leaps through ring of fire)
Space (one with the space ship approaching the moon)

Do BBC One still use those?

Yes.

You can download them here (from the Idents.tv blog):

Dog Display: http://beohm.com/identica/uk/newbbc/broadcastBBConedogs.mp4
Space: http://beohm.com/identica/uk/newbbc/bbc1space.mp4

Granted they are the old long ones, but they are the best ones.

Thanks, I hope I can get Space and Dog Display off BBC One.

Funny how some seem to get shown more often than others. The short version of Capes tends to pop up before all news bulletins. Lawn circles (mowers) has popped up a lot too over Easter weekend. I finally managed to get Hippos at the start of Titanic with Len Goodman Monday evening. Have they curtailed the use of Hippos?

By lucky chance, I also have an old long white circle version of Hippos from ages ago.

There's an even shorter version of Capes used on iPlayer.

iPlayer on Virgin Media is now using a mashup of various idents set to the music of one. It's quite effective.

Do you reckon? I think it looks a bit silly, with sounds of water from Hippos being played over images of people dancing at Television Centre.

The BBC2 version works better.
