If you look closely, that also includes some grey and white-ish swirls as well, and looks like it was done with a bit more thought and effort. Quite nice actually - it's a shame they couldn't have used that form-up for the new edits.
So I still reckon the new versions look more like the plain red form-up on the Dead Ringers spoofs.
Bloody hell, you cut an ident and the whole forum corrupts in chaos
I guess Christmas will be the ultimate tester this year.
I'm guessing I'm the only person here who likes all of them, thinking the original set was getting old and that Helicopter was annoying with its choir soundtrack?
The one I'm most annoyed about is the Neon signs one. I thought that had a really great soundtrack, now they've ruined it.
I'm beginning to wonder which ident they will use now for sombre occasions/serious news stories like royal deaths etc, because I'm not sure any of the music sounds serious enough now - we could be back to still idents like we had in 2002!

Well they could use the 8 o'clock news update ident in silent.
Peter Fincham Controller of BBC1 once said back in 2006:-
Quote:
"In an increasingly competitive marketplace a channel needs to stand out from the crowd and I believe our new identity is just what's needed for BBC One.
"It's set in the everyday but shows people doing extraordinary things. It's got variety and range - everything from daredevil motorbikes to synchronised hippos. It's warm and it's dynamic.
"The circle, which is at the heart of this campaign, has been familiar to BBC One viewers over the years, but what we've got here is modern, forward looking and surprising."
Well, you can certainly say that:-
-todays new shortened idents is just what is NOT needed for BBC1
-No more variety or range - it only lasts for a few seconds now.
-Dynamic? The lack of moving motorbikes/hippos etc for more than 2 seconds does not show much dynamism to me
-Suprising? The acrobatic dogs might as well pack their bags and go back and live in their kennels now their suprising routine has been massacred.
Also - there won't be much point in getting excited for this years BBC1 Christmas Ident will there now? Today has put an end to all that! No point starting a thread in a few months time anticipating what they will do this year as there will no point in having a Christmas ident anymore...
I wonder with the hacking to pieces of the 'story' in these idents, that it leaves room for multiple versions of each one to be introduced, using a different shot or two in the start of the buildup to add a bit of variety to it: that'd be good for Dogs, so we don't completely lose all of it.
