I only caught the end of the programme and wondered why such a message went out. It seems it was picked up prior to broadcast though as the end credits had "This programme was recorded earlier in the year" contained within just before they started rolling. It wasn't tacked on, someone had made a conscious effort to include it in the standard credits. Very odd.

Are you sure? It sounded like the same CA that introduced the programme to me, he just got in quickly before the news promo played out. The announcement wasn't subtitled either which suggests it wasn't part of the programme, or are you talking about the "All information correct at time of recording" text? That appears in the credits everyday.

The irony is, they've highlighted the issue further now as people like us are asking what it was all about. If I had been watching I doubt I would have even thought twice about it.

Of course, if you have lost a family member in a mining disaster the comment in this episode will be equally upsetting, ranging from not at all to extremely depending on the person, whether it is shown the same day or repeated six months later without any comment from the BBC. They would be more likely to see it in six months too.

Yes - that message definitely appeared at the start of the end credits.

See. Now I am worried I may be going blind. Please confirm, are you both talking about text that says "This programme was recorded earlier in the year" or are you talking about the the voice over that said something similar?

I can not see any extra text in the credits.

The way Ison has described the message as appearing before the credits started scrolling, are you both sure it wasn't the message about all details being correct at time of broadcast, which appears on the credits of every episode in such a manner.

When an earlier series of Pointless was being shown on BBC2 (when they took off the new one in advance of it's move to BBC1) a caption appeared right at the start of the game that said 'all answers correct at time of recording'. Recently that's been appearing in the credits itself, Friday's wouldn't have been anything different

It's understandable, a year after recording some of the rounds can be a little out of date. The same has happened with The Chase,, in the summer they were repeating an old series, I remember hearing a few questions that had outdated answers.

The programme hasn't made it to BBC iPlayer this evening. I wonder if this was only picked up during the broadcast, I think things like this normally warrant an announcement at the start rather than at the end.

That's very likely, no-one's going to sit through every programme to check for references to things in the news. It would only be discovered by chance or through someone on the production team having a very good memory.

I do remember that the documentation for programmes - the 'Programme as Completed', would often have a list of famous people mentioned or joked about on it for this very reason. Something like an Amy Winehouse joke is a good example

or Michael Jackson?

Just to clear up what happened with Pointless - the "all information correct at the time of recording" was part of the credit roll; and the "that episode of Pointless was recorded earlier in the year" announcement was made by the continuity announcer, just before the news promo.

Yeah, i was thinking about that.... of course it does help if the person concerned has the good courtesy to die before the programme! Laughing

Is it my imagination, or has that pesky one frame jump going into BBC 1's credit squeeze finally gone ?

Perhaps SD and HD pres unified too ?

I don't think it is imagination. I didn't see a jump on the ECP after Doctor Who.

Coming back to Pointless, there was a very obvious edit on Friday's where they added a voice over from Richard explaining that the question was asked before Rory Mcenroy won the masters(?) golf so wasn't included in the answers. It was cleverly done but the audio quality was very different, presumably done in an edit suite some months later

Wow. That really is terrible.

As has been discussed previously, they have the date in the end credits so there was really no need to do that anyway. For those of you who don't venture in to the wonderful Challenge thread, they are also having problems with Pointless becoming erroneous with time too but with their episodes being even older than April 2011 they (or Endemol) have decided not to repeat some episodes at all.

Few sound issues on The Politics Show just after the regional opt this morning. First we heard Jon Sopel complaining of a 'loop in my ear' and then we heard the interviewee in a down the line interview speaking twice before they they 'fixed' it and we were left with lip sync issues.

All seems well now.
