Don't know if anyone else spotted it, but there was a new ident on BBC One at 8.30...

It's a shame the promising opening shots give way to a similar finish as the endboard / pointer - granted, I was expecting as much, but I feel they missed a trick there...

It's not terrible ... the form up's about 4s longer than it needs to be and the recurring swirl is out of place/annoying; yes, we get that it's a circle, very clever.

Laughing That comment did make me laugh.

The ident's not bad but it's a pity there's no music with it.

I was thinking the same thing. I like it but it needs music. Like these for example.

"That episode of Pointless was recorded earlier this year".

I wasn't giving it my full attention but I didn't hear anything on the programme that warranted such a statement. Anyone know or want to guess why the CA made that announcement?

I noticed on one of the questions Richard said "as of April 2011", whereas I'm fairly certain in the week it was "as of May 2011", so it may possibly have been shown out of sequence. It may also be that since recording one of the questions is out of date.

Probably because there was a round about types of rock which included various references to the kind of thing you might find down a mine.

Actually, it was less subtle than that and before we even got to the first question. I didn't even notice it at first, hence my question. When Armstrong introduced Osman, he said "Just one person left to introduce. If obscurity were trapped down a mineshaft, he would be Lassie coming to rescue it. He is my Pointless friend, Richard".

The programme hasn't made it to BBC iPlayer this evening. I wonder if this was only picked up during the broadcast, I think things like this normally warrant an announcement at the start rather than at the end. The announcement before the programme was a lighthearted one about blunt/pointless pencils.

Now that mystery is solved, we should work on cracking the mystery of why Challenge are not showing episodes 1 and 6 of the first series of Pointless.

That was a million to one chance remark.

Bloody IPlayer people.

I only caught the end of the programme and wondered why such a message went out. It seems it was picked up prior to broadcast though as the end credits had "This programme was recorded earlier in the year" contained within just before they started rolling. It wasn't tacked on, someone had made a conscious effort to include it in the standard credits. Very odd.

The irony is, they've highlighted the issue further now as people like us are asking what it was all about. If I had been watching I doubt I would have even thought twice about it.
