The most annoying credit squeeze recently is during the Only Fools and Horses credits. Rather than let me sing along to the theme, BBC One would rather remind me 'Pointless' is on at 5.15 EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. Yes, I get it, you told me yesterday, and the day before, and the day before... geez.
This wasn't always the case. I remember watching one of the 50 minute episodes and the credits were kept clean and no announcement over the theme.

I stopped watching the repeats recently. But when I was watching them for a month or so, every day had the credit squeeze.
Was it just me, or did the picture of Question Time on BBC One HD look really sharp, as if HD? I do remember Question Time was starting HD at some point this year. However, no mention of HD on the EPG info.

it certainly appeared to be in HD (and I double checked on BBC One HD), the astons were as crummy as ever though.
Not impressed with the mentorn scotland endcap though, very shoddy looking.
I was watching the post The One Show news bulletin just now and it finished early and I saw a bit (about 6 or 7 seconds) of the national weather on the sustaining feed. I don't think the local opt (South East in my case) was short, it seemed to be the national bit that had underrun if anything. Did anyone else see anything unusual in their region?

Well, up here there we had Riz Lateef standing there like a lemon for about five seconds before we went to the regional bit. I'm thinking the national bit underran, so some regions spotted it and came on early and ended up going back too soon and some came on at the scheduled time and got Riz Lateef standing around.
It's possible the national element had a problem with their last story and the director didn't quite know what to do.
The 8pm bulletin works differently to the other news programme on BBC-1 in that the whole thing lasts 90". If the national bit underruns, the regions hold on the weather before opting back. The national bit doesn't often overrun, but when it has, the regions end up with less time (which causes no end of grief). Traditionally. the One Six and Ten do whatever duration they want (within reason) but the regional duration remains fixed (unless there's a Party Political or a DEC Appeal before the next programme). Any over/underrun of the One, Six or Ten is then dealt with by Red Bee rather than all the regions.
Slightly different situation in Scotland (and I presume Wales and NI) since we do the junctions locally, if the national element of the 2000 bulletin over-runs, we let the local part run to its full 30" and then absorb the over-run in the next symbol.

Do Red Bee call the opt on the 8pm or is it the director of the national bit?
Think the News director calls it - as they do at One, Six and Ten - but I think Red Bee call the opt-back as that is into a Red Bee junction (it could be that the Red Bee director's talkback is sent to the regions for the opt-out and they repeat the News directors call for the regions to avoid talkback switching in a 30" opt)?
The news director calls the opt (with the producer counting in the background) then the red bee director counts the regions back (in England that is - didn't realise the Nations did it their own way). Talkback from the news gallery and red bee is switched in together throughout the programme, so it can be a little confusing at times with counts rarely being completely in synch!
