I'm confused 
. Surely the skaters and the rink were real. You can never make a tree that realistic and the angle of the tree perfect. The lighting was reminicent (sp?) of an indoor rink so that was real. As for the penguins, it would be impossible to map out where the penguins skated, let alone train them to do it in the first place, so they cannot be real.

So they must have covered up the tree with a graphic as I have said and digitally altered the picture so that the skaters seem to be doing a full circle.

I agree, seeing it on You Tube doesn't do it justice, it looks much better when seen on television. Also the one I saw leading into Neighbours was the full version. It was exactly the same as the Christmas version minus the Christnas tree and baubles.

It's a real rink in some deprived area on the east of Britain. The skaters are all real. They're there doing what they're doing. The penguins are quite obviously CGI. All attempts to teach penguins formation skating were abandoned in 1962 after what later became known as "The Big Whoopsey".
The decorations were painted on after the penguins, and the big bauble tree was put in at the same time.
