Yes, but it wasn't clear. The post referred to an NI slide, then another post showed the slide I was used to on Network. As I hadn't seen it before I wasn't sure (and still am not) whether this is a slide solely used by NI.

The telling clue is the logos on the first image, which say "BBC One/Two Northern Ireland" Wink

I can't agree. I'm not a fan of squeezes, but I think BBCNI deserves a lot of credit for this (no pun intended).

Rather than go down the network route of shoving far, far too much onto the screen at one time, Belfast seem to have come up with a design system which fits in with the current branding, doesn't shove the credits into a tiny unreadable box, places other programme information on screen in a simple, smart, legible way, and, most importantly, doesn't distract from the information they're giving out by filling the screen with a load of pointless, distracting graphics.

More power to them for not just following London like sheep and for actually thinking about what a credit squeeze needs to achieve.

I agree. I'm glad the nations don't follow network with this design.

Are you being difficult on purpose? Just coz it says NI doesn't mean that the same slide isn't used on network without the NI bit!

My question remains - was the slide shown just NI, or has it been used (obviously without the NI bits) on network?

The slide was only shown in NI, the other, more squeezed in slide, remains on network.

I would agree with that assessment. The Network graphic is way too busy; the text is also very small.

One minor complaint - the 'Northern Ireland' text within those logo boxes is very small. I cannot hide my dislike for those boxed logos. The BBC Two Northern Ireland logo looks utterly ridiculous on the idents and end boards - the regional identifier is clearly too long for that box. It's a great shame that BBC NI pres have had this inflicted upon them.

Also, nice to see that BBC NI now have kit that allows them to animate the 'Northern Ireland' legend correctly on BBC One end boards. If only the 'Nothern Ireland' identifier could be spread over two lines rather than the current situation where it extends beyond the BBC One logo above it, thus leaving it off-centre on idents and promos.

I think the NI "squeeze" is MORE illegible, not less, than the Network one. Squeezing with the aspect ratio is far, far better than to squeezing against it. When Network were using that sort of ECP, it was with credits designed to be cropped .

I definitely prefer the NI one partly due to the fact that there's less clutter and all that's on the screen is relevant, unlike the network ECP that features a half-screen still which fails to add anything to what the next programme is. For example with Friday Night with Jonathan Ross is it really necessary to have a still of Jonathan at his desk? To me the answer is no as it provides very little additional material to entice any further viewers.

I still fail to see the need for such a ridiculous ECP as demonstrated on network. Why couldn't the old style be retained, as NI have shown - split screen with legible credits one side and then upcoming programmes on the other? The only thing that would need to be done is to ensure that the credits are designed for a split screen approach and not a credit shrink. This way the same information is conveyed, it clears up the screen and the credits are still legible. Sometimes I think they cut the credits down so small they might as well not show them.

That's the key point here I think. I can't help feel that the Network ECPs are more about 'look at our wonderful graphics' than getting a message across. The BBC NI graphic looks very well, and more importantly, the message is much clearer - i.e., the text is larger and more legible.

I'm not a fan of credit squeezing, but if broadcasters insist on using ECPs, I'd prefer to have squeezed credits and an effective ECP message, than meddling with credits and not getting any value from the ECP.

Have you seen the Fairytales board? Swirly things are 'drawn' onto the board. Sorry I haven't got caps.
