Yes, BBC Scotland was the first to publicly mention it, but only that the symbol "features a helicopter"...

If you go back a page ot two, you'll find t'was someone else who confirmed the symbol's name is Helicopter Wink [/pedantry]!

It features a helicopter and a lighthouse and it sounds quite dramatic but I was thinking it might not be the helicopter blades that make the circle, I think it could be the lighthouse beam going round in a circle, from a top down view.

Apropos of nothing, the BBC1 trailer caps for the 'Fairy Tales' series have been given a little treatment...

A nice Happy New Year anno from who else? Duncan of course. And it looks like we'll get the new Helicopter ident from later on today as they used Snowball into a film and will probably show it into News 24 as well.

How did you know about the helicopter ident?

There were rumours of a new ident on another forum and then a post from somebody here called BBC Scotland confirmed that there would be a new ident called Helicopter that would be launching on New Year's Day. I didn't know the title of it until it was mentioned by BBC Scotland. If you go back a page or two you will see what he or she said.

Thanks for clarifying this... yes my info came from the BBC via 08700 100 222. Hope that helps!

I like the way that BBC1 & 2 are being creative with their trailers at the end and tweaking them here & there.

And the first junction of the day had those pesky kids (is it called Ring-A-Roses?). I think the next junction is at midday, will the new Helicopter be shown then?

Preceded by a festive BBC2 trailer and followed by a Christmas CBBC ident! At least it was played out in full and mostly uninterrupted.

New idents normally launch at night. Before EastEnders would be the likely bet - or they might reserve it for Sense and Sensibility.

Never understand though why they stop the Christmas idents on New Years Eve - surely continuing them until New Years Day makes more sense.

Anyhow, I wonder when - and if - the Olympic rings will begin to feature on presentation in preparation for Beijing.

I know last time around they slapped on the end boards and didn't really work, but with BBC1's current circular theme they could be incorporated quite nicely into the end board design and even the idents.

I noticed last night that at the end of the New Year programme the final "endboard" (sorry if that isn't correct) where the copyright appears didn't have the c MMVIII as I was expecting, rather c BBC 2008. Is this new, and has it appeared n other programmes yet? I was aware that they moved away albeit briefly in the 70s from Roman numerals to digits - is this a return to that? Any help much appreciated.

Being the first 2008 end creds, it would seem that was a stylistic choice of sorts rather than a full shift to digits, as the end of Jools' Hootenanny later in the night still used the standard Roman numerals there.

Good point, the new idents have always launched in the evenings. But I'll be keeping an eye out just in case.

BBC One Scotland is still using the Christmas branding. It was the Snowball ident before Resolutions at 12:00 and BBC News at 12:05.

Is the Network now using normal idents again?
