Sounds quite promising but guess the proof is in the pudding! I wonder what the two versions will be like... one being slowed down or perhaps a different set of shots?

Probably refers to the standard formup edit - 6 secs or 12 secs.

OT but isn't it about time BBC Two introduced new (as in brand new not new variations on the current themes) idents?

I'd like to see a new real life ident, not CGI.

It would be interesting to know what their plans are in this direction. Last time, the additions to the original four started coming within three months, with further new yellow robots popping up regularly throughout 2002.

It's worth noting, however, that after the original 1991 set were brought in we had to wait until October 1992 before any additions were made.

Yes I heard there was going to be a new ident launching on New Year's Day and it'll be part of the set so not just for New Year's Day. I have to say that it does sound rather good. Maybe they'll use the slower one to lead into the news or serious programming.

Perhaps different music as well?

I think it'll still have that three note hook but looking at all of them I've only just noticed that Neon is the only one that doesn't.

Real life idents are soooooooooooo boring to me. I remember the fdark days of the real life UK Gold and Five idents. Uninspired rubbish. They need a bit of CGI tweaking to liven them up.

Laughing Okay, real life plus CGI? A la ITV 1, Channel 4, some BBC One? I agree, just real life is dull.

It does, if you listen carefully...

Exactly , I like seing the idents enhanced by a few extra elements. The BBc One idents have been getting more and more creative so I have high hopes that this one will be good. But we'll just have to wait and see.

I'm surprised bbc 140 hasn't had anything to say about it. Has anybody here seen the new ident?

It is called, unsurprisingly, Helicopter .

I do well hope it's a sombre mood of symbol; BBC1 is crying out for it ATM. Practically every ident we've had since launch has just been either too surreal or too upbeat - even Kites is IMO rather energetic for the standard News ident. An additional one is needed which leads into News (and programmes on weighty issues) with the appropriate gravitas.

I think Moon is perfect to lead into the news but they don't use it that often anymore and Magic Forest leading into a news bulletin is just wrong in view.

Pic from The TV Room

This image was discussed on MHP Chat not long ago. It's from a BBC NI programme, which cropped it originally from 4:3 to 16:9. When The TV Room had this image on the site first of all, it was the 16:9 version. Now, it's the 16:9 version, cropped again to 4:3. This results in the clock being a lot more zoomed in than it should be in this image.

Now, you'll find that the clock face does not match up with the clock face of the model shown on the BBC blog, as it is smaller in size, and the lines and things are thinner.

If this really is the same model as used in 1968 (which the large black band would suggest, as it would cover up the white strip with the BBC1 logo on it), then I expect that the clock mechanism and structure is the only thing that survives from the original 1968 model. The clock face has been re-drawn bigger and better, over the original.
