Just like asking 'has anyone seen my AUNT?"...
Did you happen to see that classic episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm featuring the typo involving that word in an obituary? GENIUS!! Very Happy

[Oh yes that's it, I'm always mixing you two up. He's very good as well.

Indeed, they seem to put a lot of effort into the scripts. Was a bit taken back by Phil's HIGNFY anno but was very funny. I bothered to get Sky+ to record into N24 last nights but just got the serious "Now join News 24" script, although I can't blame him given the fact that barely anyone would be watching at 4.45am!

Anyway, if it helps here's an mp3 (558kb) with both Phil and Duncan in action

Thanks Asa definitely two of the best continuity announcers in the country.

The idea of Ice Skating as a BBC1 Christmas ident has been suggested before by persons here, albeit was applicable to the Dancers as much as the current set - now it seems this type of idea is going to be realized.

I think, provided they don't make it too surreal it could be quite alright - and probably more visually interesting than a snowball in the middle of the screen...Would be nice if the music was really good too - that's just as key.

As long as there is something else visually going on then it'll be fine. But if it's just a few people smiling, laughing, falling down, getting up and quick cuts then that will just be uninspiring.

I feel like a walking contradiction because I love the BBC2 'Chase' idents, but that's because they are quite intriguing. But most people idents are just dull.

Its an interesting idea, I'm not sure what it will be like within the current ident set. I did think that the idea would have worked well within the dancers idents with a long pan out, and some fantastic skating.

But within the current set of different shots, cutting between, all that I can think of are the titles to dancing on ice.

Did I just miss the first BBC One christmas trailer? I went into the lounge just in time to see a red BBC One endboard with christmassy sparkles around the logo.

Yes it got its first airing after Strictly yesterday. And it was also on BBC2 last night. And I missed it each time and only saw the end where The Doctor hits something for 6 and he and Kylie run from an explosion.

Thanks. I was watching Strictly Come Dancing in "chasing playback" mode. When I got to the credits I stopped it and wiped it off, I didn't see the trailer, worse luck. If only I'd seen it I'd have kept it for my Xmas 2007 ident collection.

Is Phil on over Christmas? And one thing I've always wanted to know. When new idents get introduced do the announcers do continuity rehearsals? I remember Christmas 1987 and David Wheal always speaking too early before the music started on the BBC1 ident that year.

Everything is scripted and pre-agreed - even back in 1980 there were "production meetings" of the pres staff whereby scripts were gone over for that evening's shift.

Interesting you should mention David Wheal's example in 1987. That was the first year BBC1 had ever used an ident with any sort of form-up and so it was perhaps to be expected that some annos weren't used to having to wait before speaking. Andy Cartledge was similarly "caught out" that same year - there's video evidence on MHP.
