Snowflakes bursting out from the "o"?
Rather unimaginitive this is what we're getting for a fourth consecutive year.

But in this age of corporate branding I don't really think it matters if they use the same promo ideas. It's the ident I'm more concerned about.

Not what I had in mind! You could have snowflakes which "explode" from the central O as if coming from a snow machine. That's to say, the further away they get the bigger they appear,
and they would also keep coming.
Obviously a degree of translucency would be needed in the flakes to keep the BBC1 logo legible and any other text; (perhaps they could even be glass-like) plus for added effect a slight reduction in the background opacity to allow a fallen-snow-like texture. The special endboards for Jekyll (and something else which I forget) showed what can be achieved.

Thanks Simon. I remember him vaguely giving some superb continuity announcements during Christmas Eve 2004 about switching on lights, Santa etc. I think it was him anyway!
Skating for an ident would have suited the dancer era. What's the betting the ident will end with an aerial shot of skaters in a circle!

I know I haven't seen it yet but skaters in a circle just sounds very dull to me unless they throw in a few effects. Live action idents are just mind numbingly boring in my opinion. Having said that I loved the UK Gold 'gold ingots' idents. The only live action idents that ever worked in my view.
