Trust me, there was an e-mail from Naomi Gibney posted there, Quite why the DS Gestapo have taken it down I don't know, but I have asked the original poster contacts me with a hard copy.
Why don't they do something else, ie. snowflakes bursting out from the "O" in the "one"?
The problem with modern TV marketing is that it doesn't allow much deviation from "the norm" so the red endboards have to stay over Christmas. Why not some endboards based on the design of the ident? ITV had unique endboards for its ITV50 pres after all.

The email was posted on that thread (I read it myself) but seems to have been removed for some reason. But it looked genuine to me. It's usually quite easy to spot a fake.

Thanks for that clarification. So we are to get a new Christmas ident after all. Can't wait for those irritating sparkly droplets!!!

Presumably because if it was a real e-mail it was private correspondance and therefore shouldn't be pubished

It's amazing isn't it ?
Boring, tedious and bland- that's the way to run a TV channel,
apparently.
The only variety is in the ident, which is a strange misnomer.
Bizarre.

It's quite interesting how the pres has 'switched' in that way with respect to idents and trail designs - the former are becoming massively varied and creative, while trail endboards on the other hand seem very much locked down to the red and utterly plain, with just a few exceptions for special events.
I think the opposite was around the 80's - when you had trails promoting the new season, or a whole night's worth of programmes - and they appeared to be main outlet for creativity in BBC presentation with all manner of designs ranging from CG to live action, some were very punchy and some were abstract, etc etc.
But even though that meant consistency went largely out the window, it made sense that the trail design was the element open to ideas, rather than the comparatively sombre ident - which even into 90's BBC, symbols remained stark or simple, people-less and shot from a single unmoving camera or equivalent.
Nowadays it's the opposite, and the recent ideas being generated for the idents on BBC1 are things which, IMO, would befit trail designs better, were they to be used in that context.
