I'd say, 'Kites' is the best of the lot really, both in the idea and in how it works as a BBC1 symbol (IMO way closer to the mark than 'Lawn Circles' for example) as it manages to fit quite nicely.

However, IIRC someone mentioned before about having variants on the ident relating to the weather or time of day - I think this would be great; we'd finally see a version with a nice clear blue sky; or a more downbeat, sombre atmosphere to be musically suitable for very serious programming in ways the current sequence is not.

My favourite ident is 'Motorbikes'. The music is much much better than the others, and I like how the circle fills with red at the end.

I don't know why people go on about the £1.2M cost of BBC's idents. It really is a drop in the ocean compared to their £2Bn licence fee shortfall.

Idents and marketing are as important as the programmes in some respects. Remember they have to maintain a modern and fresh look or they won't be able to sell the programmes overseas. I'm sure the cost of filming idents in Croatia and other locations has actually paid back many times over by the exceptional identity they have currently given the BBC.

It's a form of advertising, and just about the only thing they are allowed to do within the domestic market.

Exactly - if they were rebranding every year or so it be understandable, but it's every 4-5 years at most - and I think everyone agrees those dancers needed replacing.

I think Motorbikes has the best music with Windows a very close second.

I haven't seen the Neon ident live yet but it looks fantastic, not to keen on the music though.

It is fantastic, sort of a Christmas ident for when it isn't Christmas.

However I don't see why after 44 years BBC1 now feels it needs a seperate identity for Saturday nights. But if BBC1 introduce an ident specifically for only a few hours' use every week it makes it more difficult for them to justify not having a new Christmas ident this year.

It reminds me a bit of the 5th November.

I've just seen Neon before Weatherview on Friday night on BBC1!! Good! This one shouldn't be restricted to just Saturday nights.

Well, I must say I never thought I'd see a programme dedicated to a font on BBC1.

And it's actually quite an interesting story so far.
