No new Christmas ident this year due to BBC cuts. snowball to air again.

Awful news. Sad

Just wait a minute - we can't be certain of this as often people can either mislead us or just get it wrong. We won't find out for definate until it's unveiled.

I don't believe there won't be a new ident actually. I think they've spent too much money on new ones for there to suddenly be 'no money'.

Right, I am going to hold my hands up and say that I honestly have no idea whether there'll be a new Christmas ident or not. Sometimes, and I apologise for it, it is fun to have a sinister streak that will generate a string of displeasure. It got everyone talking about the possibility or not of a new ident and let's face it, in 9 weeks time, this forum will be inundated with comments on whether there is or isn't, whether it's good or crap or such like. I am sorry for causing any unnecessary anger, but I've had such a crap life this last two years, i wanted to have a laugh. All I can say though is I sincerely hope there is a new Christmas ident, but since losing my wife and getting over a stroke, I have come to realise that there are more important things in life.

Well I'm still drafting an e-mail for Naomi Gibney should his suspicions prove correct.

I'm sure she'll file it in the "People with no life complaining about things that simply aren't important" folder.

Seriously, do you actually have any sense of proportion about anything?

Strange that they spend such vast sums of money on these "things that simply aren't important"!! Confused

Right on - if BBC1's identity wasn't considered important, why did they spend £1.2 million on it!?

I myself do think that's a lot of money for an idents package though, 50% more than the Dancers IIRC; but prior to this latest look I honestly expected the BBC to keep under the £1mil mark - so they would appear to think it more important than I had imagined!

Perhaps they've already ran out of Christmas circle ideas. After all, they did try bauble and look how badly that went.

LOL Very Happy Very Happy

They should do a huge Hollywood blockbuster of an ident (preferably my Santa / North Pole idea, which they can feel free to pay royalties for) and just use that for the next five years.

A lot of people go on about it not being Christmas until the Coca-Cola trucks advert is on (hopefully it will be back this year) and it would be great if the BBC had something like that too.

I would think there will be new Christmas BBC One and BBC TWO idents... I am sure that they would have been made by now too. Guess we will have to wait and see...

Well you'd hope that there would be a new BBC Two ident, unless as somebody said they just put a cut out over last years symbol.

What would people think to adding to the christmas collection, much like BBC Two were doing by having a new one but using the previous years idents too.

The only problem is that the idents may not be linked at all, except for christmas, and may not work.

Or maybe they should consider a few slight variants on the christmas ident. Afterall, we are used to many different idents appearing through the day, is it just me that finds them being over used at every junction, especially now that they're on air for 2 weeks?

After all the uproar when snowflake kids was aired for a 2nd year? Shocked

Oh well.

Was there any uproar outside the tv pres communities?

Ok, maybe not "uproar" but didn't people complain to the Beeb though?

People complain to the BBC every day about all sorts of things - Graham Norton, gay storylines in soaps, Carol Kirkwood's gabardine macs, Coronation Street, Wagon Wheels getting smaller... It doesn't mean they're going to do anything about it.

..Didn't someone complain to the BBC about Beadle's About once as well? http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=UGkdMGghD5g

And before you get all smart again Wink ..yes I know its a prank.

Basically, I thought many people went mad about the ident airing for a second year..clearly I was mistaken on that view. Still we'll wait and see what happens this year.

It's a valid point, it's not something the channel is unfamiliar with.

2001 had a few versions for each toy character, albeit with everything else consistent - IIRC that was the last time any variant versions were considered on BBC1. Idents like that would be welcome again, because all we've had recently is one symbol that's either slowed down or cut-down to make the obligatory 'newsy' duplicate.

It will have been roughly whole decade since we last had definitively multiple-symbol christmas idents - 1997's wonderfully executed '12 days of Christmas' campaign where each was clearly different, minimalizing the bore-factor and probably the sort of idea more deserving of the longer Christmas runs - although I wouldn't expect to see this level of variety again in future.

The problem was they chose to film in Mexico and Croatia, when there was no real justification for doing so. I believe some of the 2s were also filmed overseas - and that's where the money went. The Daily Mail can sometimes be very unfair in its condemnation of the BBC but in this instance they were right to be so damning of the corporation.

If the new controller of BBC1 decides to rebrand again, we can only expect a similar bill for the new look and if the right wing press go ape about it I think that for once they will be right to do so.
