Yes that's what I was thinking in a night time sky over a city with lights on in the houses!

I must stop thinking about it or I'll end up disappointed if we get the same one again or something very dull. Rolling Eyes

They're probably best off doing what BBC2 did and introduce a new ident each year but also keep last years.


Therefore they can opt for something more fun for this year, but keep the Snowball as an alternative.

Yes and as others have mentioned here that's probably a good idea as it could lead into the news. I have a problem with jaunty Christmas idents used in the junctions for news idents. It's just wrong and I'm thinking of bouncy puddings being used I think when Thailand had the tsunami.

And on that subject, Magical Forest shouldn't be used to lead into the news; and even though there's a new ident for Saturday night, it doesn't suit Casualty with some of its storylines.

It'll certainly take something for BBC1 to top this Christmas ident from 2000 - one of my favourites. It worked so well with Santa sitting in the balloon etc..

For me, I'd definately say the balloon era was the best of the BBC1 Festive branding.

There were some good ones during the '1' era from 92 onwards.

I actually prefer the 1999 balloon ident. Looked really good onscreen, nice Christmassy version of the BBC1 tune and Santa in Northern lights saying 'HO! HO! HO!' Wonderful!!

And I wasn't expecting it to be good because you got no clues about what the ident would be from the animation they used for the trails.

Or get out the record player and shove a couple of snowpeople on there!

Whilst its nice having mulitple idents of one theme. It wasn't that long ago (well ten years) when it was just one ident on BBC1 going round and round. Something eye catching doesn't have to be done in multiples, look at Thames, ATV, Yorkshire etc. You only need to hear the music and you know what it is.

I suppose that 'Fairground/Neon' is the last ident to be made before the cuts..
