Actually I have got the new BBC One ident: "Big Wheel" (or whatever it's called) on my HDD/DVD recorder hard disk?

I thought it was B1 to you?

It must be Tumble Tower Saturday again.

As for the new ident. I quite like it.

Good for you.

Thanks.

It's almost got that late chatshow feel to it

Great to see stings back on BBC One, be nice if they let loose the versions for the other idents which were no doubt created.

Out of interest, anyone know how Network handled the end of Casualty? On NI they ran the credits clean and did a "Action line" slide afterwards. Did Network use an ECP?

Nope, National went out clean too, no voiceover or anything.

OK, only seen the clip here but I wouldn't get carried away with it. Yes, it's fun - but I'm not necessarily sure it's any good.

And though it's good they're not restricting themselves too much with the red, the circle alone isn't a strong enough symbol to link the idents - which is why though the latter idents may look good in isolation, as part of the overall brand I'd say they're the weak links in the set myself.

I know where you're coming from. The objects that form the circle - being of no particular design and potentially applying to hundreds of representations - apart from circular outline(s), have no connections with each other in meaning / colour / design etc - resulting in a concept so broad that you have to wonder whether it's too unspecific.

The ' Neon ' symbol suits this time of year (given the schedule, it would have been ideal for a TX a week earlier) and screams night entertainment which is good, but as as I've said of the set before, take away the logo and does it say BBC One? I'm not so sure.

I love these new idents but you've put into words what I've been trying to say for months. BBC1 doesn't have a logo that can be manipulated and shown in different ways like BBC2 or Channel 4. It hasn't had that since the balloon, and even that wasn't as versatile as the '1' they introduced in 1991.

But they're never going to go back to those, and I think what they have now is one of the best ident packages on TV.

You'd be very much hard pressed to find flashier idents, especially when you look at most of even the higher-end digital offerings, which are nowhere near as lavish. So if one thing's true, the production really can't be faulted - over £1 million was paid, and now it's starting to show.

Nice to see the little touches are still there - on one of the Neon stings earlier, the back of the car bounces off the 'BBC one' logo at the bottom of the screen, as it skids round the corner!

Yes, so it is to me. Trouble was, after all the palaver what happened on the Virgin 1 thread recently, when I put "Virgin 1 (V1)", the whole thread went off on a tangent with comments about my codes. So tonight, resisted the tempation to type "B1" in my notes, and thought I'd better stick to the full name "BBC One" instead, just to avoid another argument.

By the way, is "Neon" the official name for the new BBC One ident I've come to call "Big Wheel"? I'm still awaiting the answer to my question: was its showing at the start of Strictly Come Dancing at 18:15 tonight it's first EVER airing, or had it been shown earlier today?

You say it suits the time of year. Have BBC One started doing seasonal theming (other than Xmas) now? Is that why I haven't seen the "Lawnmower" one lately? I'm still trying to record that on video - I already have the ones added to the original set earlier this year: "Magic Forest" and "Space" (or whatever it's called). Has anyone else seen the "Lawnmower" BBC One ident in the last few weeks, or has that disapppeared until next spring or summer? I'd like to know.
