Looks like they're doing what they did when they debuted a new dancer ident, by playing this new one all night.
No, it's a themed ident, so it will be the only one played on Saturdays.
That would be a real shame if it's only played on Saturdays and not before other entertainment shows during the week like the Strictly results show on Sundays.
OK, only seen the clip here but I wouldn't get carried away with it. Yes, it's fun - but I'm not necessarily sure it's any good.
And though it's good they're not restricting themselves too much with the red, the circle alone isn't a strong enough symbol to link the idents - which is why though the latter idents may look good in isolation, as part of the overall brand I'd say they're the weak links in the set myself.
This is such a nice and cheeky ident, with the woman winking, the horse nocking over the ice cream and even a dog peeing! Also do I detect a saturday slogan "Worth staying in for"?
I've just noticed the new "Big Wheel" ident on BBC One. I didn't know they were about to add a new ident to their set. To begin with, I didn't realise it was another ident. I wish I'd started my DVD/HDD recorder recording when Bruce announced the Strictly Come Dancing lines had just closed, then I'd have got the new BBC One ident on my hard disk for my collection.

You were right Jugalug I saw the latest sting before Casualty and it had a neon sign saying Saturday night. But I'm hopeful this ident will eventually appear on other days of the week. After all I never thought Magical Forest would be used before the news and yet it is.

I know where you're coming from. The objects that form the circle - being of no particular design and potentially applying to hundreds of representations - apart from circular outline(s), have no connections with each other in meaning / colour / design etc - resulting in a concept so broad that you have to wonder whether it's
too
unspecific.
The '
Neon
' symbol suits this time of year (given the schedule, it would have been ideal for a TX a week earlier) and screams night entertainment which is good, but as as I've said of the set before, take away the logo and does it say BBC One? I'm not so sure.

I love these new idents but you've put into words what I've been trying to say for months. BBC1 doesn't have a logo that can be manipulated and shown in different ways like BBC2 or Channel 4. It hasn't had that since the balloon, and even that wasn't as versatile as the '1' they introduced in 1991.
But they're never going to go back to those, and I think what they have now is one of the best ident packages on TV.
Actually I have got the new BBC One ident: "Big Wheel" (or whatever it's called) on my HDD/DVD recorder hard disk, I got it at the start of this evening's Strictly Come Dancing, you see I set my machine to record that PROGRAMME to watch as I was on my way back from a day out when it was televised.
Was that it's first EVER airing - start of Strictly Come Dancing at 18:15 tonight?

Good for you.
Thanks. I wonder how many other PRES fans who record TV idents have this new BBC One ident in their collection already?
