My initial reaction was one of surprise; but then, even the Dancers had an ident, with Brian Potter (Peter Kay) joining in with Ade and co on Hip Hop, so if anything it was only right they did one for this year too.
But, it's good to see the Red Nose itself make an appearance in an ident again.
Right near the end of the standard ident, the hippo on the far left (seen in the image above) swims towards the screen, very close, and then off to to the right. In this Comic Relief version, that's the one wearing the nose, so should 30 sec or more get played, we'll see a proper close-up of it.
From what I've seen for now, it's well-implemented I think.

That's 2 themed idents so far then. And if they did one for St.David's day, I think that this set is going to be big on themed idents lads! Like BBC2 91-97

I don't. It's currently exactly the same effort as in the Dancers era - BBC Wales with St. David's Day and the Peter Kay ones.
The only hope is the fact that this 'idea' is much more versatile.
I do like the red nose Hippo though - hopefully they can get a few full airings to see that closeup shot.

Odd moment going into DIY SOS just now...We had a Ring a Roses ident played pretty much full due to an incredibly delayed anno; and then, what initially looked like the Kites ident was in fact a spoof of the sequence from the DIY SOS team.
Is this the first time an actual ident from the set has been picked out for a mickey take?

Slightly OT, But I must say, Paul, I do like your "500 Miles of BBC ONE Idents" track - although there are one or two places where the ident music clashes badly with the music track.. otherwise it's very good!"
