This will be Total Wipeout based on a show called Wipeout that the BBC paid a small fortune to get the rights of. Not sure how well it will do.

Well, judging by the last Japanese game show they imported (I know Wipeout is US, but it's basically a clone of Takeshi's Castle, so much they sued over it) was Hole in the Wall... I get the feeling it was commissioned for all the wrong reasons, I'm not gonna hold out much hope.

My first reaction was 'Eh?' - and I know why I had that moment of confusion.

I remember hearing the sole piece of info it was "based on 'Wipeout" ahead of the trail being TX'd, without realizing that it was not , in fact, an adaption of that quiz shown on BBC One in the 90s with the manic touch-screen end game...

Whether that's just as well, remains to be seen I guess.

And that's why they call this version Total Wipeout so as not to confuse it with Wipeout which we both did.

Interesting sentence! Not sure whether to file it under Ironic, Contradictory, or both... Wink

And yes, I was aware of why they named it so, since I saw the trail.

It seems that the BBC News was part of the show as well, even I can work that out for myself. What happened at the end of the news? I wasn't watching that closely but I did see Rob McElwee in a kilt. Did he hand over to The National Lottery or did he hand over to New Year Live? What did BBC One Scotland do?

The Awful Nick Knowles handed over to the news at 11pm, with no news titles, just straight into the bulletin. The news ended with the closing sting, then the weather, then we had an ident and announcement into the lottery. Then straight back to The Awful Nick Knowles.

BBC Scotland didn't show any of this, they had the news at 9.30. Presumably they just read the lottery numbers out in their next junction?

I was joking when I said the BBC News was part of the show but it looks like the IPlayer team agreed.

The whole thing including the news (09:20), kilt weather (17:40), BBC One continuity (19:00) and The National Lottery draw (19:30) is on IPlayer.

During the The National Lottery, The Voice of the Balls made reference to the cock up earlier in the evening that had him appearing during a film - "I always wanted to be in the movies". Still no captures of this BTW?

There was no new ident featuring the above rubber ring going into the new comedy zone, yet the projection screen placed behind it lead me to believe there was more to it than met the eye. Obviously not. Very odd Confused.

It's just one of those pointless arty meeja things that serves no purpose whatsoever apart from giving the creator a smug sense of self-satisfaction. He or she would probably try and justify it by saying 'it's meant to be ironic'.

How intriguing. Can you tell us if we'll need to wait long for the great reveal?

Found this clip on a website.

Refers to the clip as being " BBC 1 Ident Pitch " possibly to Capes. So nothing newish to be honest but i'd though id share it here Smile

BBC 1 Ident Pitch - Capes?

Played that against the logo-less version of Capes on BBC's website, it works a lot better and ends when the video freezes.
