Anyone know whether the nations stuck with the trails-fest from NC1 or if they did their own thing?

Lovely Wallace and Gromit Christmas ident used on BBC ONE just now. I presume that's the first showing.

As I said in the BBC 1 Christmas thread (unaware of the discussion here), BBC 1 Wales stayed with Network for the duration of the junction, including the ident into Outnumbered. This was for the best, really; having already filled seven minutes with trailers, I doubt anybody was expecting Network *not* to fill another three and instead go straight to the next programme.

Fair play to those in Presentation though - it was a difficult decision, and one can't help but think that either the use of short filler programmes or the bringing forward of the schedule by ten minutes in one of the highest-rated slots of the week would have attracted fiercer criticism than that displayed in this thread for trailers.

In the old days, I'm pretty sure if a programme under-ran they would have just put a menu up with some music, although I don't recall if this was ever done in primetime...

I'm guessing it wouldn't be done these days (although nations such as Wales do it sometimes into the Sign Zone) because it would lose viewers!

Don't be daft - viewers love menus and finding out what's coming up, hence why all the channels reluctantly use ECPs! Rolling Eyes

Absolutely. It used to be the case that a shelf of emergency fillers was available for transmission in just such circumstances. They had varying durations from 2 minutes to half an hour, and were brilliant for getting out of a nasty hole caused by a programe underrunning or breaking down irretrievably.. These were treated slightly differently to the standby programmes that were placed in the schedule in case a live programme didn't happen at all. Standby programmes had a duration similar to the billed programme so that in theory no major filling would be needed.

Fillers haven't been seen on network for a long time as far as I recall. They used to go out quite a lot during schools programmes on BBC Two and frequently on BBC Prime where programmes were often edited to remove outdated or UK-only references.

I've posted this before but doubtless someone decided that a filler isn't acceptable anymore on peak Saturday night viewing. I'd suggest that neither is 7 minutes of trailers, some of which were seen twice! Anyway, although presentation did what they could to fill the gap (and I wouldn't have wanted to have been in their shoes!), they actually failed, because they still went to Outnumbered three minutes early. I'm sure they could have justified the placing of one short filler programme, even if it was just to give the poor network director time to find some different trails!

The last known terrestrial BBC filler programmes that I can think of were the trade secrets series, though i doubt that they could be used on Saturday night.

BBC Northern Ireland filled approximately half of the junction with locally-branded trails, before joining Network for a further three/four trails. We had a locally-branded ident prior to 'Outnumbered' though.

When we joined Network halfway through the junction, the Network feed broke up a number of times - we had three/four brief periods of black. Was this disruption apparent on the Network feed elsewhere?

What is that disgusting iPlayer prompt on Virgin Media? It has a picture of baubles and underneath is says 'BBC iPlayer'.

Most people don't know you can remove it by pressing blue, so no doubt they'll be a few complaints! It's huge!
